After much searching, I think I finally found my car. It's got a 700r4 transmission in it, which the owner/builder says was built by someone named "Tranny John." That's all the info he has on the transmission builder. I just want to make sure that this is a legit transmission builder, and not some story being made up, or some 19 year old kid playing with his dad's tools in the basement. Any info would be appreciated, as I can find virtually nothing on the 'net.

I'm just trying to gather info on the car not just for purchase but to start the process of knowing everything about it moving forward. Of course I'd like the job to have been done well, but also curious and interested to know everything about the history of the car that I can learn. As always, I greatly appreciate the input. Purchasing the car and learning about it is always (at least to me) as much fun as driving it.

If you Google "Tranny John" you'll find references tying that moniker to John Saltsman, and several people talking about the fact that they'd had tranny's done by him. Digging just a bit further it appears that his wife passed away a few years back, and there were several things posted about donations, etc, plus a note saying that if a person wanted to send cards they could go to John Saltsman, 139 S.Joyce, Rialto, Ca 92316. That was 11/2012, and I have no idea if it's still current or not. He's well known over on the HAMB.
If I were "tranny john", I would change my name to "transmission john" just to clarify things

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines, I did know a guy who was named John but now answers to Jackie, owns a cool 1960 Chevy bubble top coupe too and is walking encyclopaedia on GM parts. This old world is made up of all sorts of different people aye.
