I must admit to being a tad offended by that crack.

We've had the '47 on the road about ten years now, and she's coming up to 80,000 miles. An average of 8,000 miles per year.
The bus has been on the road a little over twelve months, and has done just over 6,000 kms, around 4,000 miles.
The Morris Minor has been on the road for about fifteen years, the odometer has gone around the clock, and now reads 63,000 miles.
The Cobra has not been on the road for quite some time, and the odometer stopped working a long time ago, but it too reads over 30,000 miles.

So there's some of us as pull our rods out and play with them...

I was only teasing with the small tank comment, with my '32 I only wish it got 19 mpg, the seat is comfortable but the shortness of the cab keeps my legs bent and I do have to get out more often to strectch, not a seat issue but the shortness of the cab. I have a 11 gallon tank and 6-71 blown 350 mileage isn't one of its attributes!

I don't really consider my Vette as a hot rod,but as long as it's running it's on the road. Right now it's down for an engine rebuild, I threw a belt and didn't shut it down when I should have and it got a tad hot. That's allright, I've wanted to try the 30-30 cam in it any way and fix the tranny leak.

Got this in my 40 Delivery and if I'm not into it can get a respectable 17 to 19 MPG

My comment was more to the guy who may have a righteous hot rod, but also has obligations or commitments that make it all but impossible for him to hit the road for even a long weekend in his hobby car - the guy that's working a job that gives him Sundays off (if he's lucky); the guy who's working a second job on weekends to help his family have more than he had as a kid; the guy who attends his kid's sporting events every weekend of the year when he's not working; the retired guy who's income doesn't support long road trips, or who's the primary care giver for an elderly parent; or the guy who just may not like sitting around in a lawn chair at a big national/regional event. Some folks are simply not able to, or may just choose not to do the long road trip in a hot rod, but that's not a negative thing to me, and it's not a reason to put them in a box. The comment just struck me wrong, and I'll get off the soap box.

Great mileage! I have hit 16 mpg without my foot into it, on a 60 mile jog I passed one car (rapidly) and I checked my mileage and it was arond 9 mpg, I have to look at it as I am not driving a blown rod for fuel mielage I guess.
As for Rogers comments, I agree 100%, I don't get behind the wheel as much as I would like too thats for sure, but the list you made (dang near all the above) keeps me from it. You forgot to mention the guys that spend the time in the shop building these things instead of driving them, I have spent my umpteen thousands of hours working on them thats for sure for many years, maybe it doesn't qualify me as a rodder in some peoples books but keeps me happy. I talked to a pro bike builder a few weeks ago, he builds customs everyday, said he has got to drive his less than a day in the past few years and has magazines waiting to cover his builds before he is done, idoes that mean he's not a biker?
