Yeah, that link has been here several times before, but you never know who might not have seen it and not know the danger. Scary stuff!

Thanks for sharing this information Lynn.

We far too often don’t take the time to read the warning labels nor take the safety precautions we should. I once met an old Harley mechanic that was blind in one eye from a splash back of a caustic aerosol cleaning fluid. He was just going to do a real quick squirt so didn’t bother with goggles – it cost him his eye. It’s good for us all to read this stuff and remember that safety needs to be a part of everything we do. Who among us has crawled under a car while using a bumper jack? How about the wire wheel real quick without glasses? Or the rattle can spray paint in the garage with the door closed and hearing the gas water heater burner come on? I’ve got some small size goggles for my grand kids (they look like the Red Barron…) but hopefully they’re learning that time spent to be safe is always time well spent.

    Regards All,
    Glenn

I believe that the brake cleaners that have this chemical are in red cans-------I don't think the black cans have it------but do check as this is really bad------

Recently a friend had used some brake clean(I don't know which type) to clean some stuff as he had removed pan and was changing bearings in his wifes expedition----------he was discovered(luckily in short order) on the floor having an seizure??? and was transported to ER---------luckily, within a few hours he was better and released but I thought he looked terrible for a week or so---I didn't get to see exactly which type cleaner he had been using as there were several cans and different types in his work area--------He was not welding anything, but -------

I will not allow brake cleaner of any kind in my shop. #1 reason it makes me dizzy. # 2 If chlorinated brake clean is mixed with my waste oil, and they catch it on the sample test, I'm then responsible for the tankers load along with some major EPA fines. #3 posts like this one.

It's so easy to take your eye sight for granted, trust me I know. Using eye protection should be as normal as breathing but unfortunately it isn't. You can NEVER have enuff threads like these to jar our minds that often get into neutral until something happens and some times then it's too late.

Tetrachloroethelyne plus argon plus heat is bad.
