1949 Chevy Pickup
A friend of mine showed up with a 49 Chevy P/U. He would like power steering. I suggested a sub frame with all the advantages but he wants to keep it original**)????? I was thinking of just changing the gearbox to power anyone have any ideas what will or will not work. I can make the P/S pump bracket thats not an issue.
Thanks guys:)

They sell a R&P setup too at about the same price. I don't think hes going to go for it....His wife is the one complaining lol

He's supossed to bring it by Monday I have done 5 or 6 but its easier to subframe them that way you get the power steering and disc brakes I'll post some pictures when I get it here

I was at the little local car cruise last night and one guy showed up with a little 32 ford he had fabricated the power steering setup for. He had used the mid 60s Mustang Fairlane/58-64 (?) Chevy control valve/slave cylinder setup. It was an interesting concept and apparently assisted well, however the execution left a bit to be desired (hose routing).
Even with that setup you’d be into for at least $500 in parts, plus a whole lot of fabrication time.

Since we're spending other people's money let's see how much his wife really means to him. No pumps or plumbing, fairly compact: Flaming River's Electronic Steering System - Rod And Custom Magazine

Unc,
That EPAS would certainly put her (or him) to the test.
