Never heard of them.....but IMO it wouldn't take much to be better then a Lokar!!!! They look nice I guess, but that flexy threaded rod sure isn't a very nice setup!!!!
Lokar, I agree with Dave, vise grips would be an upgrade. Have a look at the B&M product they've been building shifters for a good while. The advantage is that it does not mount on the trans can be placed anywhere.

the american shifter company has an ad in march street rodder magazine. they look similar to the lokar. i have a b&m star shifter in my coupe now, but i like the looks of the lokar nostalgic. all the hotrods in my area have lokar shifters! are there any other brands?
"American" Shifter is sold by the Hoffman Group who are also the folks behind Auto-Loc and a few other companies that advertise big (based in Portland, Or.). It (the shifter division) is fairly new on the market, about 1 year maybe slightly less. The Hoffman Group has a reputation (do a data search on that name and have a fire extinguisher nearby) for low quality import stuff that copies the products of established, respected companies. I'm not speaking from personal use as I have only used the companies I've learned to trust. It could be their shifter is decent, maybe even good, but I think it's going to take more time for the market to determine that. The guys in Denver (Streamline, and their subsidiaries) who bought Gennie have been causing problems for themselves the past couple years, so the best name in that type of product is a 50/50 shot at best right now. If you can find a stocking dealer that has what you need you may still be able to get Gennie product, if not, be prepared to wait for components to trickle in unless they've very recently gotten their act together.
Let me get this straight, they sell an import shifter and a bunch of other import parts and call the company American Shifter?????? Hmmmmmmm.
You know, I used to think Lokar had great products. Until I burnt the tranny up in my Vette due to a failed plastic cable end on my Lokar throttle pressure cable. The cable wasn't cheap to begin with and I wasn't really thrilled with the dang plastic clip. But it is what it is and I don't use their POS cable. Also their billet throttle pedals suck compared to what they used to be.
