Christmas gift ideas for us rodders....Share your list!

If you're like me, I see all sorts of cool things I would love to have throughout the year and then my mom or my wife or whomever asks me what I want for Christmas. All of a sudden I go blank.

Dawned on me tonight that it would be cool if we put our heads together and came up with a list of cool stuff we could point our loved ones to. :)

So with that, lets see what you think is a great gift for us rodders....I'll bet we come up with some interesting stuff.

Ok, so here's a couple of ideas I came up with for my family....might be interesting to you. Lets see your list.

My ex and I would have that discussion before every Christmas, she wanted to buy me a surprise present and I preferred to tell her exactly what I wanted, that way I got something I could use instead of something that would go into the closet and never be seen again. :D

We car guys are really easy to buy for, there is always some new tool or part we see and want. Some suggestions I would have are:

1) A really high quality flouresant trouble light. I broke down and bought a dual bulber and it really puts the light where you need it.

2) A Gear Wrench combination wrench set. We have both the ones with the flex head and the fixed head and I really like the fixed ones better. The flex head ones bend at the worst times and I rarely find a need to angle one to make it fit something.

3) A good set of drill bits. We have a bazillion different bits but the ones we use the most are the DeWalt brand ones that come in a yellow plastic box. They are very agressive, have a pilot point, and stay sharp for a long time.

4) A tap and die set. Dan bought a Kobalt set and we use that thing to death. It comes with the correct drill bit for every size tap, and it has course and fine thread taps and dies in the same set.

Here's another stocking stuffer.

Don’s suggestion about a high quality flouresant trouble light is a good one, besides putting out good light and being a lot more durable than the old style incandescent ones I also like the fact they don’t put out the heat (especially when doing underdash work).

I also like the portable LED lights....... not having a cord following you around is nice some times, and battery live on a charge is about 4-6 hours depending on the unit. I use mine as much or more than the drop lights. I also fully charge mine and throw it in the tool box when I do my cross country trips It’s nice to know I have 4-6 hours of light in case I have problems or need to change a tire at night.

This isn’t the exact one I have but it’s the same idea.

I like the 3 & 4. I bought a set of drill bits from Costco because they were a good deal. Wow, they are really bad quality. They are brittle. Made by Kawasaki and in a green box. Don't get those!

Mike, I like the idea of the LED light...No cord would be excellent!

Just socks,underwear and Sugar free Whitmans sampler on my list . Already got or will get myself anything else I need.

Mike is right about anything cordless, they make life so much easier. We use the cordless drills so much we rarely drag out the corded ones any more, unless we are using something like a holesaw in steel where we need a lot of torque.

Another great gift is one of those retractable air hoses on a reel. We have 3 of them in the shop and it is so much more convenient to be able to simply retract it when you are done, rather than having to coil it back up.

Same goes for electric extension cords on a reel, you just pull out what you need and retract it back up when done.

Finally, one of those rolling tool carts is handy. I have one for painting stuff so we can wheel it outside when painting something, and I just bought one more at Turkey Run and I organized all of our drill bits on it so it is sitting right next to the drill press. I got tired of having to dig through a bunch of bits to find the size I needed.

I solved the surprise present thing. One year I found a good deal on an air compressor with attachments. Bought it stored it at my neighbors house and on xmas morning told my oldest son to go get it and when he comes thru the door to yell Merry Xmas Dad !

I have a knack for guessing what I'm getting every year. Drives my wife nuts. :LOL::LOL::LOL:
