The part of the build I hate!!!!!!!

The truck is coming along, I enjoy making brackets, fabricating,
building a roller, even fireing the engine the first time, then it all comes apart for the part I dread..........bondo, prime, prep and paint!
I don"t know if I can keep enough enthusiasm to get past this part
this time!
"Put it on, block it off - put it on - block it off - put it on - etc."
Seems like so many wasted weekends! God, I hope it's worth it!
Bad day today, Sometimes it feels good to vent!

Maybe you can get a bunch of guys together and have a block sanding party.

I couldn't agree with you more............I HATE bodywork. :p When I worked at a body shop (I was an office guy) I would see our bodymen sanding, prepping, hammering, and working away, hour after hour, and wondered how they got out of bed to come to work every morning.

Some guys are good at it, but I am not.

When I did my '31 I kinda enjoyed it as I really hadn't done something quite as extensive as that car. Yep a 'bucket, a couple of '50s' cars and a few later models that needed minimal body work which were fun as well. I just don't have the patience to have made it my "life's work".

My 'learned advice'(:eek: that's frightening) - take a deep breath, maybe a day or few away from the build, suck it up, then hit the car with a vengeance and git 'er done.

i loved doing body work did it full time and side work. full time at one shop and came in to help at 3 shops when they needed help.worked at my shop after work and week ends .i like metal work the most .but did paint alot as well .now i been out of it i can not stand the dust and breathing all the crap

Trouble is that bodywork and paint is the most expensive step in building a car, so if you can do it yourself you can save a lota lota money

I still enjoy the bodywork part---Not near as fast as I used to be at doing it and had to find new ways to do a lot of it, but I still enjoy it. I do body work in bits and pieces, as I'm able to. When the old body gets to hurtin' too bad I just do something else for awhile. No way I could do it all day every day anymore!

I hear ya loud and clear, I just finished mine, ( "done and painted" here on this board ) And it took me 6 weeks to block and prime and re block and re prime and guide coat it and more blocking, but the pain ( in the hind end ) all went away when I pulled the tape and put it back together. It is worth the effort, just keep going and like Doc said a little here and there and all of a sudden you're in paint.

love it, live for it. I was lucky as a kid and got an apprenticeship for an old hot rod painter when i was a kid
since then never looked back.

If I had the opportunity,,I would load some gear into a box,and ship it,and myself up there..and become a travellin body shop man,for all of you guys who dont enjoy the bodywork..A good way to see the country...:D:D

I enjoy the metalworking and finding new ways to screw it up but the finishing is so tedious it drives me bonkers. I think the real work is in the metal finishing - the better you do that the less body prep it'll take. I am constantly trying better metalshaping habits, one i am working to develop now is leading. I fuse weld a panel and while it is still warm i am leading the joint. I hope to get good enough with the lead that with little filing i am ready to skim coat. I'll try anything to reduce the sanding, blocking routine.
