P.S. Love that shop for the build!!!
here are some more
a few more, dates are now corect.Frame was changed from some of previous pics, wheel base from 97" to 158".
last pics. to date.
Wahoo!!!
Someone likes to play in the mud!!!!
Will the semi rat have a hitch to haul the mud machine?
Yes, thats why i'm building it. I can't afford to buy a 1 ton truck so i will make one. The front and rear axles are from a 72 motor home. the frame is made with 2x4x1/4 tubing and when done, just the frame will wheigh about 650 lbs. the motor is about 425 hp w/ 4 speed tranny.
That's pretty cool, Jim - and I love to see the father-son thing. You'll never regret spending time with the kids. My youngest is 24 and I'll still rearrange most anything on my schedule to spend time with him.
I try to work on this thing everyday but weather prohibits alot. So i spend some time each day with my son then work on it in the evenings when it's cooler. Got some more pics of some of the things i been doing.Like i said before i can't afford to buy a truck so i'll make one.Well i can't afford a ho to sit on my shift stick so i made one.
Got a couple more pics. and a question. I'm going to be hauling a trailor with this semi, my drive shaft is inside the cab. What guage sheet metal would be good for the floor? And around the shaft? I do plan to put a safety loop around the u/joint.

I am going to paint it black from the bottom of roof down, and the roof will be blue. On each door i will paint (Hillbilly Bling Trucking Co.) you heard it here first.I am also looking for 2 chrome stacks,at least 6.5' X 6" OD. Keep Roddin!!!
Jim I like the idea of a semi rat I even like the idea your here in MI. and I along with others realy enjoy the pictures. Keep them coming. I don't know that I would be to concerned about the floor sheet metal If you put a loop at both ends, thats already better than any car and the D/S's run under them front to back.
ya might want to rethink that pitman arm drag link arraignment just a thought ....ted
You are absolutely correct Ted. super bad bump steer. I was lookin at another thread (TRACK BUCKET) and he ued a Ranger steer box. The saginaw box i used will work if mounted down lower. But i have no other place to mount it.If i used a box with pitman arm on the bottom, my draglink will be at less of an angle.
ya your right it will help the angle but it will steer backwards turn left the car goes right turn right the car goes left your going to have to do allot of practicing to get use to that:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:.ted
Yea,,, I don't want to do that,,lol..What I was thinkin is, under my dash, put 2 piller blocks, one on each colonm with a gear on each colonm.. Mount the gears so they intertwine. When the steering wheel turns right it will reverswe the rotation of the other colonm.Any input will be GREATLY TAKEN TO HEART. I do not need any more close calls. But, for now I'm going to work on other stuff till I figure that out 100%. Keep Roddin!!!
Been a lil busy.Got the floor almost done (metal work). Workin on seats and dash.
goin to try to finish floor this weekend, but the seats will be done tonight.Late night lol.
I quess i should have called my 51 semi a hot rod instead of a rat. Which in my book it is a rat (home built with LOW BUCK parts) but i will be putting lots of chrome on it and a SHINEY paint job. It's a semi, i'm going to drive it alot (no trailor queen) so i want it to look good. Sorry i don't have as much money as alot of you do to call 1 800 send me. See ya.
That thing looks rad. whats the second shift lever for, is it 4 wheel drive?
