Shine, almost every time we involve an outside shop we run into problems, be it upholstery, paint, whatever. It seems anyone who can rent a building can call themselves a professional.
That job looks really bad.
Here is what I suggest. Have the job done properly and then get the shop who does the work to write on the involce what necessitated the redo. Send the first guy a certified letter requesting he pay you back, and give him a time limit to respond. (which he probably won't do) Then take the first guy to small claims court and be sure to take lots of pictures (first job and second job) and take your new upholstery guy as an expert witness. Small Claims Court works great for these types of issues and your initial outlay to file is very small. You don't need an Attorney, and the key is to have the expert there so the Judge can get direct testimony, letters won't suffice.
