A birthday surprise!!

Well..........a surprise to most of you anyway.;)

Ten years ago today Brent launched Club Hot Rod. Of course nobody else knew about it til the 6th when he announced it on Club Cobra, so maybe we need to have a three day long birthday celebration.

We've touched on certain historical notes in the past, so won't go into any long stories here, but suffice to say, a lot has happened in the past decade. A lot of good folks have passed through the club house door. Only a very few "originals" are still here, but a number of later arrivals have prevailed and made the house a better place. A lack of hard and fast rules about what constitutes a "hot rod" has contributed to a wide variety of interest/vehicles represented here.

We may not be the biggest, but the ol' site just keeps pluggin' along. People come, people go. Some post a lot (helps to be Norwegian;)), some, not so much. Lurkers abound. As an example, there must be something about our photo galleries that pops up on search engines. I've noticed my own gallery has had close to 40k hits in just the past 7 months, I suspect others have had similar experience.

I don't have any personal story that stands out "the most", but depending on my "mood" various images pop to mind at different times. I think of some of the generous folks who've helped with projects past. I remember those who we got to know, but who passed on to thier reward; sorrow for the loss, joy for having known them for whatever amount of time we shared. Though most of us will never meet face to face, through the interaction here we get to have a taste of what someone would be like to hang with in person. A few folks I've had the good fortune to actually meet live, and I'd like to believe, it rounded out the friendships formed.

Anyway.......happy birthday CHR! If any of you feel so moved, how about telling us a story about what you found that keeps you coming back.

A very nice post, Bob. For me, I found CHR when I started thinking about maybe building (some would say "assembling") a car a few years back, and when my questions were not ignored it kept me thinking about it. I've learned a lot of things here, and have also remembered a lot of details that were hidden back in the corners of my mind when pondering the posts here. I continue to marvel at the talents and knowledge base here at CHR, but it's the open, accepting attitudes and the general lack of criticisms that make it a good place to frequent. Happy Birthday, CHR; Brent, thank you for your vision and drive to build and maintain the site for us ten years ago; and Bill, thanks for your efforts as global moderator!

As usual, Bob's words are right on the mark. In the maybe 5 years I have been on here I've had the honor of rubbing internet elbows with some very nice, talented people and have enjoyed every second of it. This forum is always my first stop when I wake up every morning (well, after the bathroom:o) and my last stop before I go to bed every night.

When I look back at everything that has taken place on these pages it is quite a snapshot of life. We've shared in each others problems, sadness, happiness, triumphs, and everything in between. I miss a lot of the ones who are no longer with us, like Duane, Jim, Dennis, and so many others that I forget them all right now. This is a better forum because of them being part of it.

Gotten to meet a few of the members in person and immediately felt like we had been friends forever, and hope to meet a lot more in the future. I can't imagine how much work Brent and Bill put into keeping this site alive and healthy, and certainly thank them for providing such a warm, interesting spot for us to hang out in.

Happy Birthday, CHR. Hope you have many, many more.:):)

Wow, it's hard to believe its been that long.
It's kinda hard to stay away from good company, great info, and fantastic builds.
I'm just happy to be in such good company & have had the honor of meeting a few of you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHR. Having only been here since "06" I haven't contributed near as much as others. I do how ever spend time reading. There is MUCH info here I remember just waiting for Don to post about Project $3K. HAHAHA You did great there man. Dave's new project the 57 Chevy is being watched closely by me and others I'm sure. We'er all waiting for Barb to fire up her project. There are many others like Uncle Bob's never ending WIT and pictures of the fair sex. Did I just say that..... I know I have left some out and its not on purpose its just you all know who you are and this is a real good group of car nuts (some loose some not so). The info here is second to non. SO AGAIN "HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHR":):):):)

I'm not even sure how I found the place now... But, through this site I've had the pleasure of meeting a true hot rodder that you all know as IC2, who I now consider a friend! A more generous and caring individual would be hard to find! And also the guys who share the thread in the small block ford forum. Great people all and then there are those guys in Florida, Don/ITYS and his sons. Always willing to share their (many :LOL:) builds and knowledge, and Ken & Steve, an ocean separates them physically but, their skill and knowledge puts them on the same page!

And so many others! The open minds and willingness to treat others with respect keeps many of us here and coming back for more!

Bob initially i joined up here as a way of keeping in touch with Don (itoldyouso) but i reguarley check this forum now as i've found everybody to be stand up people, Its a nice place to come and chat and catch up with nice people.

i just feel comfortable being around members mostly my own age or close .. the maturity level is up ..caint wait to discuss this again ten years from now

I found this forum by Googling "Hot Rods" or something of that nature. I keep coming back because of the huge source of knowledge found here, the vast array of interesting projects, and the new friends made here both online and in person. Oh yea, I also enjoy the sometimes bawdy(sp) brand of humor displayed here. Like Hoss I also appreciate the maturity?:eek::LOL:;)of the members shown here. Oh Yea, Happy Birthday CHR.

I found this site with a search engine in 2005. I was helping a friend’s son out with a 400 SBC build and for the life of me couldn’t figure out why this thing would not run above 3,000 RPM. I’d fiddled and futzed with every possible thing I could think of with no luck. It was certainly hard on my ego as I had built a lot of Chevy small block motors in my day and never had one stump me like this one.

Long story short – I started to post here and was amazed at the knowledge and level of patience displayed by the members. Lots of people chimed in and it was like having an international conference call with the world’s best hot rod car minds! In the end, it was a combination of some bad head gaskets and vacuum problems – things that I certainly “should-have-known-to-check” but they got by me on this one. I chalked it up to being a bit rusty, but more importantly, I started working once again on a long time project of my own (63 Nova SS). She’s still not done yet, but getting closer in “hundred dollar increments”. As a matter of fact, I took the old heater box out this last weekend and rather than just “replacing” the leaking heater radiator, I took the sheet metal down to bare metal and repainted it, put new gaskets on all the flapper doors, ordered a new motor and a new resistor. I also got to thinking how much I like stainless so I thought hey – let’s do it! I soldered NPT fittings on the new heater radiator and made up some 5/8” and ¾” (10 AN and 12 AN) and made up some real nice hoses and viola! (Pictures to follow)

All this to say, “Happy Birthday Club Hot Rod!” I enjoy this site a lot and learn pretty near every time I visit. I know my posts kinda ramble sometimes, but I trust there’s some value from time-to-time if nothing else than from reading a good story.

Happy Birthday CHR! I really don't recall how I got turned on the this site, but then I sometimes can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday.:CRY: Don't know enough to contribute a lot, but I have learned plenty from just lurking and reading. Thanks to Brent and the crew for keeping the site going. Great bunch of guys and gals here.

A friend of mine in Ontario Canada told me about it and sent me the link. it seemed friendly enough, so I stayed. I have been able to meet a few and has been a lot of fun. There are a lot of really good people here!

My fondest memory from CHR concerns a true gentlemen Hot Rodder, a master of the understated, and a very skilled yet modest builder!!!! I don't ever remember him having anything but kind words and ecouragement for anyone and everyone on here! For those of you a bit too new here to remember him, you missed having the opportunity to know one hell of a fine man!!! I can honestly say that my life is certainly better for having known him.

Hey, I resemble that comment!!!! My ancestors were boat builers in some little fishing town in Norway, so maybe my addiction to Hot Rodding is some sort of genetic thing??? Betcha they snuck in a racing hull from time to time!!! As for the post count, I've got a lot to say but I can't remember what it was so I just keep rattling it along and maybe what I meant to say will come back to me someday?

Happy Birthday to CHR...I have only been a member for a few years,but its the most user friendly site I have seen so far,,no back biting,scratchin,name calling...etc.And from where I am sitting,no attitudes..I found this site through Johnboy,indirectly..Had a lurk or three,then thought,yeah,why not..
Its also my first stop in the morning,and last stop at night,for a laugh,or some valuable info,from the many experienced guys on here..I also enjoy throwing pics on too,to show you guys[and gal]whats happening down here.The build logs are very interesting,and I am amazed at the workmanship and detail.I think the one big thing that warms me to this place is the openness,frankness,and trouble sharing that goes on here..This does not/will not happen on the other sites I am a member of..Even though I have not met any of you,[apart from Roger,Blow by]and only talked briefly to Ken Thurm when he came out here a couple of years ago,I feel that we are all pretty good mates.Any way,gotta thank Brent for the site,,and Bill for watching over us..kool guys,,keep it up..

How lame I am...late to the birthday celebration! :D You know, I have as much fun on the interwebs today as ever. I'm not the greatest personality in person so I do what I can to make up for it online. :) I do enjoy building stuff. It appears that building cars and building communities is what I like to do. Someday I'll retire and be able to do it full time. Really wish I could do that today, but...reality. :)

Bob, thanks for noticing and taking the time to share it with the group. Everyone, thanks for the kind words personally and your sharing of the experiences...Its nice to see people enjoying the place.

Happy birthday Chr. I found this site through Tech and although my knowledge and expertise is limited there are many here who are not and the wealth of information is for the most part limitless. Some day, God willing, I intend to meet Uncle Bob in person to find out where he's hiding all of the beauties he's always posting for Don.:D

started out rough, for sure, seen, done, learned, met alot since i 1st joined, seen a few friends pass as well, i still thinking about them anytime i am wrenching.

glad to be apart of the site since 04, jesus when you say it like that, as much stuff that has happened in my life since 2004 would be eough to fill a book. i keep coming back because some of you were there for me in those tough times, still are and i respect that and will do so until i die. funny how a website can bring so many people together all over the world and we treat each other like our friends in real life, when one doesnt come one for awhile we worry. its a big happy family, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

I found this site four years ago and I always check in a few times a day. You guys have not only gave me hours of entertainment looking at your cars but have been pretty good friends as well.
