Newbee to this. so any help would be great. I just bought a 1969 chevy truck custom 1.0. it had a inline-6 in it. I want to put my 305 that i rebuilt in there. I just pulled the i-6 with the tranny out and it looks like the engine pedestals are going to have to be moved or something. They look too close together and to far back i think. anybody got an easy fix to fit a 305/350 in the engine compartment of inline-6?
use v-8 parts
but do i need to move the actual pedestals that the engine mount goes on?
Go to the wrecking yard and get all you need off of a 67-72 v8 Chevy pickup.

The nice thing about doing a swap like yours is that Cbevy built that truck in both engine configurations. The frame is the same, just the mounts and stuff like that are different. As the guys suggest, head to a junkyard with camera in hand and pirate the parts off of a v8 version, and mark everything where it goes. The pictures will help you reinstall everything as GM intended.

You can bolt a V8 to your existing mounts but the motor will be close to the firewall and you will need a fan shroud,the sixes have three parts to the monts and just remove the part that mounts the cushion to the block and the motor will bolt right in but if your truck came with a manual trans you will need a automatic crossmember. I done this to a 67 C20 25 years ago and kept the 4 speed with granny trans it came with.
thanks for the replies. i guess ill head to pull-a-part. Yea LMC had motor mounts for a v8, but i'm still trying to figure out if i am gonna need to move the pedestals that the mounts sit on and if they will even work. (the ones bolted to the frame) it looks like they are gonna put the mounts to close together
It would be best to hit the junkyard and get all the V8 parts but a V8 can be installed with the 6 cylinder mounts and if you have a manual trans you can retain all those parts if you want.

it's my understanding the 6 & 8 pedestals are all the same, the V8's are just bolted forward of where the 6 cylinder ones are.
yea. i still think they are too close together though. well i'll find out tomorrow. im gonna measure it i guess. I got the i-6 on an engine stand and the 305 on my test stand so it will be pretty easy to measure
I had a 68 which is the same as yours. The V8 bolted right up to the 6 cylinder mount, BUT it is sat back about 1-2inches, that is why they need to be moved forward...joeQuote:

FWIW. my grandfather had a '67 GMC K25 ( 3/4 ton 4x4 ) with a 305E V6. when it blew in 1981, it sat till '82 when my dad and him swapped the 350 engine from his rusted up '73 blazer. they ither used the orig trucks mounts or the '73 blazer mounts. nothing was custom.. somthing tells me that '73-'87 mounts will also work and are more common in junkyards.. but the 6cyl mounts should work fine anyway
Even with the V8 in there on the 6 mounts there is still room for a HEI distributor,if it has a manual trans you can use the bellhousing,flywheel and all the clutch parts too but I think I had to shorten the Z bar.
yea. i think it will fit. if it sits back ill use a fan shroud. (jeffs idea). IF I MOVE IT foward i might have to move the tranni crossmember too? the engines are the same distance from belhouseing to engine mount on both engines. the i-6 is just longer. what do yall think
