Which one or all of these cars?

Will handle the freeway use figuring all are in good mech. condition w original sized tires/wheels?
1939 Plymouth- six/3spd stick
1940 Buick Special 4 Door-strt8 3spd stick
1948 Ford 2dr V8/3spd stick
1955 Chrysler New Yorker 2dr hdtp Auto/331 hemi
We're talking bone stock w factory wheels and drivetrains. I am in the market for a gennie driver and found decent examples of the above locally but want a car that can be driven some distance w/o getting flipped off every mile :HMMM: :eek:
I think I know, but want some opinions

Well, generally, the newer the car the better they were built for highway driving, so the Chrysler would probably be the best long distance cruiser. But when I was a kid we went from Pennsylvania to Florida every Summer in a 48 Buick convertible, and it made the trip just fine. We tend to forget that cars of that era were new cars back then and people did drive them cross country.

Whichever one you choose though, be prepared for things to happen such as parts breaking down............just the nature of the beast when using an old car for a daily.

Not so much a daily as I want one for cruises and shows (but NOT a show car) However most of the shows I attend are some distance (65-75 miles ,mostly freeway) Of course B4 a tirip like that iwould go over the car long before hand. I aslo knopw a of several others (like Model A's and 1930's +40's Chevys. None of which are reliable freeway cars from my experiance. 50 MPH tops w a bit more if passing (yah right :rolleyes:)

When I was growing up, my dad bought a brand new '55 New Yorker 2-door. We always went on vacation at 100MPH, so I know it will be fine on the freeway!

I loved that car, even though it had a two tone green and yellow... inside and out!

I would probably pick the New Yorker - but it does have the curvy road handling characteristics of a marshmallow in a bowl of Jell-o.

I would agree. Mopar tried to make pretty comfy cars. but handeling suffered.. I looked at a '55 Dodge at 1 time. nice car, just the price tag was a little more than I had at the time, and then I got the Falcon... even my dad's '66 Charger is a little bit 'boaty' but that 383 4bbl sure does get it going pretty quick.

My vote is for the Chrysler with the Hemi or perhaps the v8 ford. Those hemi cars had some pep to them. Just my 2 cents, Don Jr.:toocool:
