Steering Column
If I go to the junkyard what would be a good steering column for a 39 chevy.

Depends on what your looking for.....
I've had good luck with mid 70's chevy van columns. They have the key and switch in the column, can usually be found in a tilt version and have the shift indicator located on the unit. The Cruse control (single button in the end of the turn signal lever)is also easy to adapt to other vehicles, or use the button for something else. They are also easy to shorten if you have decent welding skills.
Another good one if you have room is the tilt/telescoping units found in high end GM/Chrysler full size products from the mid 70s. The ones used in Chryslers are actually GM units that use an adaptor harness to mate the GM electrics to the Chrysler harnesss.

Thanks for the help fellows
I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
