It looks like your shaft is too long. The outer shaft can be cut down to make a tighter fit between the wiper motor and the window frame. Then you can cut down the inner shaft to get a nice tight fit between the inner shaft and the wiper arm.
Hard to explain but rather easy to do.

I know it's nice using what you have, but they do make a direct fit application for you vehicle. Try All Ford in Campbell Ca, they have them in Stock, the complete unit. Direct bolt in.

    Do they have a website?

Also, if it's a direct "bolt in", what does it bolt to

The shaft goes right through the header. there is a nut on the front side that secures the wiper motor. Then the wiper pops on, two speeds. All Ford Parts 408-378-1943 I do not believe they have a website
