Admitting is the first step......

In a different thread I was asking about rough idle.... the first answer was vacuum (thanks glenn). There was a leak at the intake to the spacer plate. Fixed that with a new spacer plate that was a litte 'skinnier', and it ran better - but still seemed off.

Ummm...... in feeling around the back of the manifold, I found that I forgot to plug the 3/8 flare outlet from the vacuum block I am using. DOH! :eek: Plugged it, now runs fine.

So - need to admit I am a dork! Cannot believe I forgot to plug that darned outlet before installing on the vehicle.

Is there a 12 step for this? **)

Heck, I can make mistakes doing nothing but thinking about working on a project!!!! Anybody can make a similar mistake, but few will admit to doing it!!!

We've all done similar things. I once spent half a day trying to figure out why vacuum advance was having no affect on an engine I had just timed. I felt really foolish when I realized that I was plugging in a loose windshield washed hose...

DOH! OK......that made me laugh.

David I made a similar mistake priming my oil pump before startup. I forgot to plug the oil pressure sensor into the block. When I spun the oil shaft with the drill attached primer, I had a geyser of oil shot out. I actually started to laugh thinking I'd hit it rich!:LOL:

I totally missed the vacuum port on the back of an old rochester 2-barrel once. This was on a Camaro stock car that I ran on dirt. The car ran great and had great throttle response:3dSMILE:, but idled like crap.:( Hey, who cares about a rough idle on a race car, right? Well, a fresh engine usually lasted a full season (that's a whole year here in Florida) before it needed freshening; this one started smoking and losing oil pressure 3 months into the season:eek:. I absolutely was baffled:confused:. I used the same brand of parts as always. I decided the machine shop must have screwed something up...:mad: When I pulled the engine out and started disassembly I found my mistake. DUH!!! The poor thing had been sucking dirt!:o

Doh!!!!!! That's a total bummer....

We have a saying where I work, if you don't do anything you won't make mistakes. I make mistakes..... sometimes!
