Are you a member of the Ford Galaxie Club of America? http://www.galaxieclub.com/
If not, they are a good resource for parts & info. I used to own a 64 Galaxie 2door hardtop and they were very helpful.
Of course, everybody here is GREAT, too! Those guys are just more Galaxie specific.

you might want to also check out your local craigs list. I have seen parts for the old galaxies there once in a while.

Your friendly local wrecking yard if you're doing a disc brake swap (79 T Bird stuff is pretty much a bolt on and a lot cheaper than Dearborne).

Local parts store (still a lot of suspension/brake/rear end stuff available......and a lot cheaper than buying it form a specility vendor).

E Bay. A lot of time's things like factory cast iron headers (both long and short tube) and sometimes cheaper than buying aftermarket stuff.

yeah craigslist, a parts car or two, and the local CarQuest have been real helpful in the past, I intend to hit those sources up again.
being South Ga, the junkyards don't hold alot of older stuff as it's either been torn apart or still in use as stuff doesn't rust here.
I need to join the galaxie club, and wow, crites has some good prices on headers.

My mission as of now:
total interior replacement as it's trashed
quarter panel on pass side needs to be replaced, some addition of sheet metal on pass side (I'll fab).
Paintjob
trunk is rotted out along with fuel tank.
new brake lines and brakes
new weatherstripping and seals all around as it's dried/cracked

otherwise most metal is amazingly solid, just needs a good cleanup and some paint.
Can't wait to tear into this one, should be a fun and trying next few years.
The details on it are going to take a long time and deplete my 'hobby fund' account for the forseeable future.

Too bad your so far away. There is a guy up here in Washington state that has a convertible and a parts car to go with it for $3500.00

Not sure if anyone said this one.
These guys go around buy up old junk yards and they were the only one's that had parts for my 65 Ranchero.

drivetrain:
vin pulled 289 and cruisomatic.
I confirmed by measuring the stroke that the engine is a 390, and trans is a c6.
owner said the engine came out of a 66/67 Galaxie, tho engine has mercury valve covers. Of course he also stated it was a hiperformance engine.... I mentioned it had a 2v intake and 2100 carb and was met with a blank stare, so who knows. I'll tear into it once I get it rolled into the shop.
Took a lil tweaking, (and a empty beer bottle for a gas tank) but I got the car to fire up and it went into gear and rolled around, tho with no brakes I wasn't going to get crazy.

Wow Mr smith, I dunno if that is good or not, I paid about half of that, tho parts cars come in mighty handy.

are you going to go black with a red interior black exterior? that will look nice if you do, I know its expensive but that car needs a 427 sohc, a smooth running 390 is nice too,

black on black was the plan.
as far as engine, pulling the valve covers was eye opening... kinda gross in there. I'll rebuild it, most likely as a 445 as that seems the most sensible for what I am doing (street cruiser). If I really wanted to go big, I'd get a genesis block and move this engine to one of my trucks. Funding will not permit that for a LOOOONG time tho.

I'm still scratching my head on this engine, haven't found the casting numbers yet. Stroke is 3.75ish, heads are 1961, intake is a 64, valve springs are doubled (dunno how common that is) yet the intakes only a 2v. I dunno, I'll pull the engine soon just to get it outta the way.

*cough* course I'm (at the moment) trying to get one of my trucks running so I can get it outta the shop and the Galaxie in.

A 63.5 Galaxie is by far my favorite 'shoulda kept' car out of many I've owned. It was an XL 406 4 speed, Tri Power, Heritage Burgundy, black interior. I traded it for a '65 Galaxie XL 390/330Hp Police Interceptor that was a real POS Monday built car
