I finally got the nerve up to check my MPG on my '34 Ford Tudor, with 350/350 Edel Quad carb set up and was surprised to get only 10mpg! Granted, I tend to drive it with a heavy foot and it has sat for a bit idling while I recharged the AC unit, but Is that within the "normal" range? The 350 is from a '78 Chevy as best I can tell from the numbers.

That's pretty low, but those dual quads are not helping the mpg thing. I know everyone says that you are only running on the back one until you get your foot in it, but I still think the front one is seeping fuel to keep up with the additional airflow that is going through it. Gear ratio is also a big factor.
To give you some point of reference, when my 23 (also with a 350/350 combo) was running one 4 barrel I actually got 24-25 mpg on the highway regularly. On one trip I actually pulled 30 mpg one time. But I am running 3:00 gears, tall tires (30 inches) and a very light foot. I could cruise at 60-65 just off of idle. Then I added two Rochester 2 barrels and surprisingly the mileage dropped somewhat. On the last trip I took the best I could get was about 23 mpg. Around town I have no way of knowing (no speedometer/odometer :o) but it is still probably in the 15 mpg range or better, I would bet.
Your car is also heavier than mine, but I still think 10 is a bit low for that setup.

On the way to the shop tonight I was thinking about your mileage, and suddenly it dawned on me that you have a/c. That in itself tends to drop the mileage, especially this hot Summer.

Hmmm. Dual quads and a heavy foot, combined with some idle time and a bit of around town cruizin' could well equate to 10 mpg... Try some just down the road driving, keeping your foot out of the secondaries, and see how it does...
What size of Edelbrock carbs do you have on there? You don't possibly have a choke hanging part ways closed??? Is the linkage on the carbs progressive, and could it possibly be adjusted incorrectly allowing the secondary carb to open up too soon??
Performer series, 500, no choke hooked up yet, linkage is not progressive

Not progressive linkage? If you're running dual quads on straight linkage then both carbs are working at all speeds and 10 mpg might be about it!!!!Quote:

Ah, that says a lot. I ran the dual quads on my 27 with straight linkage for the entire time I drove it, and while it ran well the gas mileage wasn't all that great. This time around I've added progressive linkage and hope it gets better. I would also think your car runs a little rich, I know mine did.
