...all Bantam roadsters were fuel altereds didn't you?

Here's a pic of a restored American Austin roadster to give you an idea of what they originally looked like, including the tiny engine they had. And then a picture of Pure Hell, one of the better known altereds......slightly bigger engine!:D

No No you surely wouldn't Ken, it is worth more fully restored and must be uniquie even in the good old mother land UK. Dad and I had a little Morris of about the same when I was at college to restore and the engine was only about 12" long, so full of horse power.:LOL::LOL: I love it as it is thanks Uncle Bob,but friends think I'm abit sick..:whacked:

That photo of Pure Hell reminds us why this rule was put into place....
"Crankshaft centerline must not exceed 24" from ground"
Any more height on the motor for weight transfer and the cars would have been tipping over on the turn onto the return road.

Indeed, the normally aspirated altereds were nearly as entertaining as their nitro counter parts. For a short while their was a heads up inj altered circuit in So-Cal. First on nitro, then gas only. I appreciate " Coyote's" taste in cars as Roy Rastetter fielded several competetive comp elim based alterds out of Div 4. However his T-bodied dragster served as my favorite.

I think you can thank the Ramchargers' 'High and Mighty' plymouth for the 24" crankbolt rule.

The motor in the Austin looks like it should have a couple straps to carry it around when you didn't have it in the car. The distr is waay bigger than any of the pistons!
