    Flathead/T5 trans adapters

     



    Considering a build with a 1953 flathead and I have several T5 transmissions out of Mustangs plus a Corvette ZF 6 speed--------would prefer to use the T5 but will build whatever works out the best------------just don't think the ZF .5 od will work the best behind flathead plus it mounts so much different altho I can manage that with the design of the center structure----thanks in advance

    I've seen most of the links/sources-most lean toward the s 10 trans but I have a half dozen out of Mustangs plus the zf 6 speed vet box---wanted to see some feed back from anyone who did the swap----------seems like very good combo of ratios for an flathead (100+hp ) for street driving-no racing, etc----------I think that having a good combo of gears would liven up the flathead install rate----------

    my concerns do include the fact that the flattie is front (water pump) mount and then with the trans mounted at rear of tailshaft housing-----------originals had midmounts-------

    issue is that early engine/transmissions were mounted front/center/and tail----------

    these newer trans are not supportd in the middle bellhousing/clutch area so there is a lot of weight that ain't supported----------

    I've seen probably all of these methods and was hoping that there was some actual users response--------

    We are doing a 59L block with a T5 now using a Cornhusker adapter. Your concern regarding the stability with such a small spread is warranted and we are trying to address the issue. We have added some steady-type rods to help the rocking. I will see if I can find a picture. The T5 we have is the really late S10 with the Ford mounting face pattern. The car should be running by Christmas or rocking by Christmas, depending upon the motor mount findings.

    Hey Jerry!! I have a S10 T-5 behind a 8BA with no middle support,Have asked over on 2 other sites(HAMB,Ford barn)does not seem to need a middle support. I have about 5000 miles on it so far(offy adapter) knock on wood!! Pete
