throttle response/tire size

I know when we talk launch we look at tire dia as being part of the gear reduction equation. But what if we're not talking an actual launch. We're just talking that initial couple of feet at light throttle. My car does that very very well now. The strokers cam and carb were all set up for that intial snap in your neck. My 15 inch cragars I just bought to replace my 14's (cause selection of 14" rear rubber is a joke) are only 8" wide in rear. The 14 in BF's that I run now are a hair under 26". I'd like to go taller and wider or atleast one of those to fill the wheel well some. Looking at the M.T. sportsman radials they have a 26.1" dia that was measured on an 8"rim only gives an 8.8" wide footprint.If I go to their 10.6" it says it fits 8-10" rim but I'm told that because I'm at the very bottom of that it may crown a bit. I'm told that if I have to be at the minimum thickness of rim I'm better to step up to the 28" cause it would crown less because of having for sidewall to straighten back out. I can see the theory behind that I just wonder how much that inch on the radius will kill me at initial throttle response?Hope I didnt confuse everybody to bad

Shorter tires are like a quick and cheap gear change... If it's leaving ok now, don't think I'd be real eager to jump up 2" in height!---

PS--have you looked at the Hoosier street radial sizes? I used to run MT's and switched to Hoosiers, quite pleased with the results.

Well you like the current acceleration & you would like a taller tyre to better fill the guards.

Personally, I would go to the taller tyres as I think stance is real important, and you already have a stroker engine, so a small loss of acceleration wont hurt toooo much.

You can always change the rear gears if the new setup takes all the fun out of driving.

From 25.5 to 28. I like the way guys word things from the states. No offense fellas but you dont realize that where I live those tires are about 700 bucks a set and a richmond gear set about 450 bucks. When a fella makes a decision here he likes to make the right one

2" taller tire will be close to one step lower gear ratio... Won't be huge difference seat of the pants. Will dog it out a little bit but not a lot.

You can control the crown with inflation pressure, the old chalk or rattle can line across the tread, drive a straight line a short distance and see how the line is rubbed off. Deflate until it is dead even on the rub and you are at proper pressure for the tire size and vehicle weight.
