Actually you were right the first time, that's the funny thing about that pic, Larry IS getting in on the passenger side!:LOL: If you look closely at the roof you'll see the cut out for the driver door extension on the other side. Presumably to make entry at the LeMans start quicker.

As for the shocks, I didn't ask the source, they could be Pierce Arrow or something else. They looked to be a strap affair with an inertia reel type of mechanism in the housing.

Yes you are so right and I had not noticed the different door styles around the roof area so there you go another example of learning something new each day. That would mean then that the GT40 bodies where designed and build by our English friends as was the Cobra bodies and then Ford American building the rest maybe. As you may of guessed I not up too play with our automotive history as some of you guys.
I agree with you on the strap looking shocks but I was thinking that the whole systems must be under an extreme amount of tension to work correctly,simply amazing what the early engineers designed and built.

That '52 Chevy called "The Jade Rival" in reference to the ol' Jade Idol by Gene Winfield (see pic) is beautiful with just a ton of body mods. I saw this car "The Jade Rival" at this years Grand National Roadster Show(GNRS) where it won the Gorge Barris Kustom D' Elegance award. Built by John Foxley out of Maple Ridge, BC and a young guy with just a ton of talent.

Larry, that Ford you posted is the Jade Idol II, a tribute Winfield built for a customer who admired the original. That one is based on a '57 Ford whereas the original was a '56.

Yeah, that was the II. I think the first car was built from a 1956 Mercury back in 1960 that really launched his career. Kinda sad what happened to the original Jade Idol but I guess its been restored now.

Here's a pic of Gene Winfield sitting in the Jade Idol II car at this years GRNS. He was doing a TV bit on the car at the time.
