Anybody have any experience with applying for a lost title in the state of Texas? Is a bill-of-sale sufficient for an old car in need of restoration?
Thanks,
Randy

The best way is to ask your State DMV.
THISmay help you...joe
Yea I live just north of houston and went throught the lost title process and got a title for my blazer. A friend of mine printed out an old lost title application and I filled it out and sent it in. The only thing is I had to have the previous owner sign it and give me a copy of his ID to send in with it. Oh yea and you have to have a $2 money order made out to TXDPS place in Austin Tx. I got my title in maybe a week.
most counties in texas has stopped lost title searches. you have to get a bonded title. i just went through it with my 54 ford truck . cost 100 for the search co to get info together then the bond was 150 i think. been 2 years ago.
Yea I guess it depends on the county. I filed for my lost title about 2 months ago and it took less than a week for me to get it
Thanks for all the replies, fellas! Maybe I should have explained the situation a little more......I'm going to be selling a 1936 Ford Tudor flat back project car that my dad originally purchased in 1989. It has no title, only a bill of sale from his purchase. He died 10 yrs later and never got started on the project. It's been in storage all of that time but now the family wants to sell it because none of us can take on the project now. The car is located in southern Oklahoma but I was going to advertise it in both Oklahoma & Texas. I was debating on whether I wanted to try to get a title for it or leave that to the new owner. Thanks again for all the responses. I really appreciate it.
