Update on the Thames ......

.... after 10 days in the new shop, here's an update on the Thames :eek:

Josh has the injector unit mocked up and we decided to cut a full inch off each of the velocity stacks to allow for better vision through the windshield

the hole in the firewall to mount the brake booster and master cylinder will be filled in ........ he has figured out a way to mount it to the frame and have the pedal come through the bottom of the firewall

He sanded the aluminum rear doors by hand (said if we had tried to media blast them we would have destroyed them) ............ they had up to 3/8" of filler putty on them ......... each one weighs less than 5 pounds now

some of the aluminum on the door backs was damaged to the extent that new supports needed to be fabricated ........... here's the support for the left door

we have made more progress in the past 10 days at Richardson's than we made in the last 6 months at the old shop :D:D

Good to see your making progress on the gasser project again.

I had a Thames I/G gasser "once upon a time", LOL. Actually it was about 1967-68. The one thing I remember about it was how soft the aluminum was on the rear door skins. Since they are almost flat, I would be inclined to replace the aluminum skins, with steel fab'd skins over the inner panels. My concern would be after all of your work to get them flat and smooth, and having someone push lightly on one to close the door and bending it. Just a thought.

Nice to see the Thames moving again. Is this the new builder, or the did you work something out with the original builder. Those stacks look awsome.

Totally new builder in a totally different shop .......... this is a rod & custom shop exclusively ........... he does his own fabrication, painting, engines, trannys, rear ends, etc, etc .......... everything but interiors :3dSMILE::3dSMILE:

Cool little project you are building, Is this for street fighting or only under strict supervised racing conditions at a dragway? Is that also a real fuel injection unit or one of those dummy units that cover over a 4 barrel carb lke we can get down here? Always loved those short wheel based cars,keep up the good work.

Congrats good to see it moving along again .

Seems when a shop does collision work along with a build the build will sit . When you have cash just waiting on something to be done and they get paid they can make just as much for the shop .

New Guy here,, I signed up especally to watch this build,, I also have a 48 Thames,, infact when I saw this one I thought someone had stolen it , :>)
you are a bit further along than me,, I'm just about finished with the chassis ,,,

Its looking good,, doing a nice job,, and glad you found a better shop,, lots of crooks and robbers out there,,,,,,,,

I'll post up some pictures of mine on a separate thread,,
