Need Advise for 1st Street Rod

I am looking at a 1933 Ford Vicky which is lacking interior and appears to need some tweeking of electrical and AC.
I would appreciate some opinions as to value... here's what it is...

Fiberglass body (Custom Motor Coach/ Classic Motor Carriages, circa 1992)
Small Block Chevy ('85 block)
9" Ford rear-end by Strange Engineering
411 Gears
Mark Williams Drive Shaft
3" Flowmaster Exhaust
Griffin Radiator Alum. Custom
Tilton Starter
2 B& G Pumps (orginally plumbed for NOS)
4 whl disk brakes
Auto meter gauges
MSD Propower
850 Holly
Brodex High-Rise Manifold
Air-Flow Heads Alum
Vintage Air (not working)
Weld racing wheels

Interior unfinished, nothing outstanding on body (chrome, etc.)

Owner is looking for 20 area... comments, PLEASE!

Custom Motor Coach/Classic Motor Carriages are the former names of the company Street Beasts. Google either and you will see a long history of problems, and advice that the finished cars have very low resale value due to poor quality/workmanship. Many say they will not own a Street Beast, period. I would say the rule of let the buyer beware applies here in spades.

Lots and lots of bad publicity on Street Beasts.... If you decide you really want the car be aware that the resale value on them is really poor...... As Rog mentioned, you may want to do a google check and read some of the material that comes up.....

What the guys are saying is very much true. These cars were built "somewhat" like 34 Fords but with some differences like the way the fenders mount to the body and other things. Most people who know cars have little respect for them, and the company was known to have some serious problems with fit and also with supplying the parts people had paid for.

Now, on the other side of the coin, to most non car types these look great and they think they are looking at the real McCoy. A guy in a car club I once belonged to had one and he was forever getting offers from people who wanted to buy it. Go figure.:confused:

Just run far away from that replica-thing. It looks nothing like a real vicky. You could do way better for less.

Very few Ford parts fit them ! Maybe a emblem if your lucky! Your buying a can of worms ! You'll be on your own .

I think for 20k you can get into a nice all steel car.

PS Now, if any of you know of a nice one, 4 seats a must, please let me know! I want to buy my first before I turn 60, so I have about 18 months to do so!

Just a thought, since the car, other than interior (probably $3500 to do there) is complete, if I was able to get this for 17-19k, would it then be worth it? Just thinking, maybe the Previous Owners (builder & current) took most of the loss due to the bad rep on the body... just wondering if there is a right price for this.

I don't know, I have been caught in the lemon game before, buying something for 15K, working in it and finding out I can't even get my money back. If you know there are problems but still want it offer a rediculously low price say 5k because of all the good parts are worth something. I am very leary anymore.

I suggest that you do some Google research and see what people say about Street Beast cars. The question is will you ever get your money out of it down the road, or will it carry the "beast" stigma and be difficult to impossible to sell. Like Don said, if you finish it nicely you may find a buyer that does not have any concerns with names, and simply buys what he likes; or your experience may be like brickman's, and you can't even get your money back. For me, there are too many good cars out there for me to buy one that carries namesake baggage, but that's just me.

Everyone here has given you some very good advice....you should listen to them. You may think this is a cool car now, being new to the hobby/sport, but once you start going to events and shows with it, you will be very dissappointed. You will start to hear the snide comments when people dont know youre listening, and you will soon sour on your "new" vehicle and want out.....It will be too late then. There are just too many good deals out there and in my opinion, its a buyers market.....Do some research and be an educated buyer....Good luck on your treasure hunt!:)

I would have to agree. You will probably have almost the same money in one of these that you would with the real thing; only it will be less attractive and harder to sell, if and when the time comes.

I went out to look at it and was very disappointed in how it looked. Dimensions were off, poor fit around the windows, the interior was not only lacking, but what was done was slapped together fiber fill (for lack of a better description). I really did not like seeing the look of fiber board under the hood or under the wheel wells. The body was gel-coat yellow, the fenders were molded to the body... it really did look like a toy... I can appreciate that fiberglass, if done properly on a radical rod, low slung & maybe steel hood and side pieces could look nice... but this one was so far off as to be a disaster. I estimated about $3500 interior, $5-7k repaint (having to remove the body from the chassis, remove windows, etc.) & would still not address the issue of seeing the fiberglass under the wheel wells! Someone mentioned $5k for the car and he is probably right! I would never be happy with this particular one...

That said, I am still in the market for a completed car; too old now to resurrect a failed project. Just wanted to update the board. Did some searching and found an all steel 1934 Ford Chopped Top Custom 2 door, 350/350 in pretty nice condition. Purchased it on Sunday $28k area. Looks to need some brake work (very stiff) - maybe a booster or redo the "plumbing" and has a few rust bubbles under the paint on the door (proves it's steel, huh :) ). Clear title, in seller's name. I feel I'll be much happier with this. Anyone seen this one around at all? I believe the resto was done about 17 years ago.

Looks like a very nice car. Your patience paid off. And this forum is a wealth of information that a person can certainly benefit from in cases such as yours. Have fun in your new ride.

Thank you! Now I have to redo the brakes (VERY HARD to PUSH), fix a couple of rust spots in the door "skin" and I'll be good to go!
