Been considering what wheels to put on the 'maro... I don't really like the new styles, but then again not sure the old styles will look right on the car... Found these, Sumitt name on them, no idea who actually makes them but I think they might be the comprimise in appearance that I'm looking for.... 17X9's and 17X8's....

You might want to step up to an 18 for the rear. With the body visual "taper" the variation in size works better.
Thought about that, got to look at see what I can get in an 18" tire with the diameter I want and still a bit of sidewall... But yeah, the 18" wheels would look nicer.....
It kind of reminds me of the Astro Supremes of the '70s.
They do kind of look like those, HRP....Do they give the old and new look at the same time....that's what I'm after.....(If that makes any sense).:LOL::LOL:
Wheels like those are timeless. Astro Supremes, American Torque Thrusts, Cragars, Raders, etc. I like the ones you posted Dave, and I'm normally not a fan of 17's or 18's. I agree about 1 inch bigger on the rear if you can get them.

I don't normally like the big wheels either...just trying to keep the car a bit modern looking....
Guess if the 18" wheels leave no sidewall for the tire in the diameter I want, I could always go 17's on the back and 16's on the front?? Have to do some more checking, I guess.
Itoldyouso hit the nail on the head. Very nice rendition of the American Torque Thruster, true classic.
Those are nice wheels, Dave. You are right to check on the right tires before commiting to wheel size. Tires today are getting to be a pain unless you want rubber bands or drive a 4x4.
Going to use the BF Goodrich G Force Radials, they have a good selection of sizes, just have to go to the 40's to get the diameter and width combination that I want.... Need to have a low diameter (26" rear and 24.5" front) to get the ride height and suspension geometry to all come out correct.....

These are C5 Vette replicas....
I can get 18X9.5" for the rear, 17X8" for the front....
They do make the G Force radials to fit....
How would these look?????

biggest issue with the vette wheels is the negative offset----will it work on the Camaro spindles???

In my honest opinion,Dave,I like the Astros,might be an 80s car,but those Astros would look right at home I think..A friend has a 67 Firebird H.O with 17 inch Cragars,looks good,I dont like big cart wheels either,but they suit the car..Will try to find a pic of it.:cool:Quote:

They remind me of the cragars I had on my 68 mustang. Always liked those wheels!

Lamin8or, those tt's are what sets that firebird apart for the chaff. Very nice!
I guess that I must be hung up with that style, figure out sizes for what gives you the big thrill!!!
By the way, that is a very comfortable photo of two beautiful cars...I also noticed the classic cragars on the senior chevy.
We used those on my son's '48 pu, never a doubt as to what to use there!

Thanks HR Surfer,my favourite choice for that Chevy too,unfortunately they have been replaced with 17inch Fooses,still a nice wheel,but not my style,BUT it aint my car,so whatever goes.He is in the club I belong to,if ya like,I will try to find some more shots,wish I had an engine shot,sneaky little B&Mblower sitting on a stout mouse..:D
Yes,agree with the comment on the Firebird,,Russell is very particular with all his cars,will ponder for ever before he does something..That fire chicken was imported about five years ago,California car,only two owners I think,originally gold metallic,gold interior,still has ORIGINAL gold interior..
Any 17 inch or larger wheel with the thin sidewall tires look like crap on ANY car.

I don't like the 24" things with the rubber band tires, but I think I'm going to go with a set of 18" rears and 17" fronts.... another thing I've noticed on the 17's and 18's, it's about the only way to get a Z or W speed rated tire without having to pay $300.00 a tire.....

17in and 18in will look sweet mate, as the old saying goes opinions are like ......... everyone has one. I have 18in and 19in on my 69 SS RS and man they are sweet, had to have then to fit my 14in baers. Fit what you love mate.

Hey,westoz,flick us some pix of ya car,18s & 19s are the absolute cut off I think on an American car,have seen 69/70 Mustangs with 20s & 22s,look totally wrong to me,but I like seeing side walls,as you say,only an opinion,yes,they are like those things,everybody has one..
