The spelling and pronunciation of Titian Red has been disputed for years. I was told it is pronounced "tee-shun", but no one seems to know what it means. I've always wondered if it was supposed to be "Tahitian" and maybe somebody at GM back in the '50's couldn't spell that either...
Body shop?!! We don' need no steenkin' body shop, man!.. If I had to pay to have my cars painted, they'd all be done in spray-can primer!
Seriously, with all the talent you and your sons have, painting should be no big deal for you guys. I have been doing my own painting since I was 17 years old. You will probably never see one of my paint jobs at Pebble Beach or the GNRS, but I can hold my own on a street driven vehicle. Started out in the old days with lacquer; if you screwed it up, wait an hour to sand it out and do it over. It's a bit different now days (no lacquer!) and materials are more expensive, but there are some materials that are pretty user friendly...Jim

So, do you think I can get this Tiziano Vecelli guy to paint my car for me?
Jim, I can spray mine, but with the money and years Dan has in his he want's it as good as possible. I know my limitations and even with a good downdraft booth dirt still gets in.
We have some time yet because Dan is working on getting the stereo installed now........as if he will be able to hear it over that Olds!

Thanks Earl. Didn't get anything done tonight, Mondays at work are usually tough and I come home and veg out. Plus, it has been so #*&&& hot here this Summer. I did drop off my wheels at the powder coater this morning, should have those on Friday. Now I just have to make up my mind on what tires I am going to run...............decisions, decisions.
I felt kind of wasteful yesterday. I had the tires dismounted from my wheels and the ones on the front only have 500 miles tops on them but are 9 years old, so I won't run those again. Hate to put brand new looking tires in the dumpster, but better safe than sorry. I have heard old tires blow apart with little warning.

It's looking good Don, when do you have to get it finished by?

Thanks Kurt. I was shooting for Oct 25th for the Billetproof Drags, but that is probably not going to happen. But I really would like it done for Turkey Run in Daytona Beach over Thanksgiving in November. I think I can make that one.
On a side note, I also think Dan's car might really, actually make it in November too!
We worked on cutting and rolling beads in his floor last night and we got one side all done when I left at 4 AM. He stayed until who knows what time, so I suspect he got a lot more done on the other side. Some guy is making his bomber seats right now and they should be done this week. The plan is to epoxy prime the subframe before we rivet in and seam seal the floor panels into place.
I didn't want to get right down to the wire on either car, but for some reason it always works out that way.

Don; That because now matter how much you do you'll always be looking for ways to improve what you've already done. I other words it's a never ending love.
But then you probably know that better than me.

Yep Kurt, I don't think a hot rod is ever really "done." They keep cranking out "stuff" we just have to have.
Just for you Bob I'll make sure there is at least on PURPLE part on the car. (somewhere under the carpeting or something)

I think this might be the year we finally run into each other Brad. We are going to have to plan something so that happens.
I didn't get a whole lot done today because I am held up until the guy who is going to build my center section gets back home. I thought it was today, but his website says the 18th, Tuesday. I'll be on the phone with him first thing Wednesday and get that thing ordered. I'm going to sit down with a speed/rpm calculator tonight and see what ratio I really want. 4:30's are my pick right now, but I want to crunch 4:10 to 4:88 and see what differences those make.
One thing I did do today was put on the SoCal front stabilizer shock. I have never run one but so many people swear by them that I had to try it. They either come in red or chrome and I wanted it to be as unnoticeable as possible, so I sprayed it black and got it mounted. Here are a few pictures. It doesn't stand out as much as I feared.
Most of the day was spent helping Dan do his floor in his RPU. He got the second side cut, all the holes for the rivets drilled, and we rolled the same beads in it that we did on the passenger side. I think it looks pretty cool, too bad carpeting will hide the four days he has in making patterns and finally bending up and cutting the two sides. But at least he will know it is there.
Here are some pictures of how the floor came out.

4.30's??!! Don, are you running an overdrive trans? Or are you building this car to just cruise around town?
Dan's metal work looks impeccably neat as usual. You're right, it's almost a shame to hide it under carpeting. His patience and eye for detail are amazing...Jim

Thanks Jim. No, it has no overdrive, I know what you are thinking, 4:30'S or similar might be a little deep. It had 3:70's and they were nice highway gears, but I always felt I could use some lower gears for around town. The 30 inch back tires were the reason, I think. I may regret buying low gears, but I want to try them just to see how much better the launch is. The cam I am going to run doesn't come in until like 2500 rpms, and that is a factor too. If they are too low I'll put the 3:70's back in.

I got a 70 ford pick up that we put power steering in and that thing was all over the place on the interstate, could not hardly keep it in one lane.
Put a stabilizer shock on that and it's about 50% better then it was.
