Moving ahead rebuilding my '27 roadster.

On the stabilizers, I won't say I am totaly happy with my front end now, but I can live with it. My problem may just be that everything is brand new under it, and it is super tight. I was wondering to slow the pump down a little could I use a differant pully wheel?
I'm thinking, the thing has to much pressure.
I like dan's floors too but I am more impressed with the trany tunnel.
In my 65 Ranchero I used flat bar and boxed the trany tunnel and also tied in my front
safety loop for the drive line in to the flat bar. This is gonna be a street strip car.
Have not started the sheet metal work yet though, but the shifter and linkage for the trany has already been made and mounted. It was a little tight for that C - 6 but the linkage that I fabed works real smooth anyway. Kurt

No, I'm kinda on hold until the rear center section shows up. It was shipped Wednesday and should be here Monday. I guess this weekend I'll try to find something to do on it, maybe start sanding and prepping the body. But I really want it as a roller so I can move on to the next step of building the engine.

I've also got some small stuff coming from Speedway (new hubcaps, etc) and those should come Monday too.

Haven't had anything to post regarding my 27, but the center section showed up at work Tuesday. When I saw the UPS truck pull up the guys I work with said they've never seen me move so fast! :D I LOVE getting boxes from the big brown truck.

The guy who built it is the same guy who built my Son Dan's 9 inch rear, and he does a really nice job. I got the same Trac-Loc one Dan got, but ordered 4.30's and he got 4.00's. His Olds has more torque than my sbf will have plus mine is a stick, so it should pull fine with this ratio.

Plan is to get it up on wheels this weekend, then start ordering my engine parts. Here are the only pictures I have to post.........pitiful I know, but I am going into thread withdrawl and needed to show some progress regardless of how insignificant. :o:D

So you haven't made any progress lately? Man, you were cranking it out there for a while. Oh well, good things take time.:)

Kurt: How big is that lathe? Post a picture of it. Most of those from back then were all cast iron and HEAVY. I was offered one at work a few years ago and turned it down because I couldn't figure out how to move it and where it would go in our shop. It was off of a WWII battleship and our forklift couldn't hardly pick it up. I shoulda taken it for scrap value alone.

I made a little more progress on the 27 today...........I took an air hose and blew off the dust. :rolleyes: My progress gets more pathetic all the time.:o

Ha! You're ahead of me, Don. My total progress for this week was taking a hole saw to work that I need to make the carb plates for my log manifold. I didn't use it, yet, I just took it to work...:rolleyes:

Can't move too fast on these things Jim. :D The other problem is that this Summer has been unusually HOT! Most days it's over 90 in the shop and even a bunch of fans only moderately help. Every day we hope it will rain like mad to drop the temp a little. Can't wait for fall.

Finally got around to doing some work on my 27 this weekend. The only thing keeping it from being a roller was for me to install the new center section in the rear end, slide in the axles, and rebuild the back brakes. Got all that done and it is now officially a roller. :D I pushed it forward and back a couple of times just to make sure it would really move................hasn't gone that far in 9 years.

Now I can start building the engine. I spoke to a tech guy at Scat this past week and picked his brain on 331 stroker kits vs 347 stroker kits. At the end of that discussion, plus what I have been researching on line, I called Summit and ordered the 331 kit. I really didn't need those 16 extra cubes, and some people say the 347's have a shorter life and can use a little more oil. Don't know if that is true, but I went with one that should still run great and maybe live just a little longer on the street. Supposedly the compression with my 58 cc heads should be about 10.5 - 11. I thought that would be high for the street, but the guy at Scat says it will be fine.

The kit should show up on Tuesday. Then I have to start figuring out the rest of the components I want to use. I am pretty set on a Motorsport X303 cam, Comp cam one piece pushrods, and Comp Cam roller rockers. I have Harlan Sharp roller rockers for my 460 and they are nice, but I have read some good things about the Comp Cams rockers, so I am going to give them a try.

For a couple of reasons I am going to reuse the 69-70 DOOE B heads I ran on the 302 in the 27. I called my machinist and explained I was on the fence on using these vs some aluminum heads. He is a Ford fanatic and really knows his stuff, and his feelings were to go with the Ford heads, but do some reworking on them. Aside from bigger intake valves he is going to install guide plates and screw in studs. I think I am going to use Comp Cams springs and retainers too. Later on, once my wallet recovers, I can always add a set of aluminum heads if I want to. I think the HP this one will make will be plenty for me..........should be much more fun to drive than the 302 I ran for years in it.

My time goal is to have the motor put together and in the car by the end of September. Maybe even fired up for the first time by then. Then I can concentrate on getting the body prepped and painted.

Here are some shots from tonight of how the car now sits. It will drop down a lot once the motor and body are on it.

Yes - I was whole hog on it then school started & work schedule changed a bit & I got a bit derailed. I'm back on it soon as work is slowing down so it'll afford some time to start up again. Its not like I don't have 7K parts waiting to be added to the car.

I've even contemplated removing the engine from my old SK boat & setting it up for a BBC. My "new" '78 chev. S10 is SBC powered so a "spare" in the garage won't hurt.

I'll get some pix soon. I also had a directional change, before I bought or wasted time on the middle frame area. I AM going round tube. It's just easier to fab it up than C channel stuff.

Your rig is coming right along though. GREAT job so far.

Ok Paul, I'll hold your shirt until TR. It was an extra small, right?:) See what happens when you have your coupe in a rod shop that does all that neat HP stuff, it rubs off. Pretty soon you will have a clone of Fat Jacks coupe if you don't watch.:D

Tomorrow my stroker kit shows up. I'm like a kid on Xmas eve. You would think at my age I would be over that kick you get when the UPS truck pull up, but noooooooooooooooooo! :o

Oh ...... you don't know how Fat Jack influenced me on my decision to purchase my specific coupe.

Had I not already had 2 pro street cars in the past this would be wearing FJ orange. That cover (in 1985) still haunts me & I've had to stay focused to continue with what I wanted it for in the begining. See you on the salt.
