First Show w/ the HenryJ

Perfect day for a car show, no rain! Took the Henry J out for its first show (with me, Dad showed it a little before he got sick). It was a big hit. I realized too late I should have remembered to bring A) chairs B) a cooler w/ drinks C) sunscreen (ow) & D) the DS game for my daughter who got bored very quickly. I also realized it could have been washed, and I saw people bring things to clean up road dust & bugs after arriving and didn't know to do that. Lessons learned!

I have more pics but can't get them on to my computer at home, I'll have to do it at my shop where my laptop set up is. I took this w/ my phone.

We won best in show in our category, "others" (non traditional makes, which there weren't many of, but it was pretty cool to win something the first time out...and on Father's Day, which meant a lot to me). It was a small show but a nice way to start out!

Any other suggestions for what to take along/do where shows are concerned?

normally some tire cleaner and tire shine. california duster, and maby some chrome polish and bug remove in case you splatter some..

Couldn't be any better than this.....Father's Day, you went to a show, and your Dad's car won a trophy. You had to sense someone special was right there the whole time. :):) Great way for you to spend the day.

Main thing about car shows is that you should have fun. One of the best parts is talking to other car minded people and also those who are not so car minded. You will get every story from "we had one just like it, but it was black, and it was a Ford", to "tell you what you should have done differently on your car." As much as you will try to avoid them, you will get a certain small percentage of people who just love to tell others how to build their car. But the 99% of nice people you meet make up for them.

Mainly though, just enjoy the whole atmosphere and also talk to others about their cars too. Some people are a little standoffish, and if you pay them a compliment they may not even respond.........but that is ok. You were the bigger person and had better upbringing than them. :D

I don't even wipe mine off when I get to a show. I consider every bug a memory.

Thanks!! It was a great day. Really. My daughter found an old tee shirt Dad had been using to clean off the car under the seat & I nearly fell apart....but it was ok. Dad was with me.

As Matt related, a California Duster is almost a must-have addition to the clean up inventory.

Isn't it a great feeling to be around others who have a like mind? You'll be making lots of new aquaintances and friends. Just a word of caution, pick and choose carefully.

Awesome! Happy you went to the show. Like a few said....there are usually things to do at the shows. For me it was always the fellowship with other rodders....but I also enjoyed the silly games that sometimes frequent these events. And the bikini contests! :D I cant wait to get my 36 complete but guess it will wait till I get my sons car done now. At least he'll enjoy the shows. Maybe next year. I agree with the fellas.....a good wash and wax, California duster, and some windex is all I used. Lots of fun. I'm glad you had a good time.

Congratulations! Glad you had a good time. A California Duster for sure, and some microfiber towels(use these ONLY to clean the car), some sort of Detailer spray. Maguiars and Mothers both make good ones and those will take off just about any sort of road grime of bugs. I generally just use chrome polish at home before I go. A little whisk broom for the interior and you should be good to go. I have a little kit bag I keep everything in.

Bet you can't wait for the next one now! Looking forward to your other pictures.

Thanks! I'll have to look for those things...I may actually be at my Dad's house tomorrow to get some work done to get it ready to sell, so will look in his garage to see if anything like that is left in there and we missed it.

Maybe think about keeping some of his tools too. Might come in handy, and a lot cheaper than buying new ones. I bet he also has most of the show car prep stuff in the garage too. And here is a wierd one, but look for a can of paint or touch up bottle, for the Kaiser. It might come in handy later!

Congratulations! Get chairs that have an overhead cover. You'll welcome the shade. If it's not sunny you can always fold the top back. Wear comfortable shoes and drink lots of water.

In case you encounter some rain, you'll want something to dry your car with. Above all, have fun!
