The one I have in the shop is a 1 ton unit that has a larger cylinder and some reinforcement. It will lift 2 tons easy. The other one which I'm going to get back tonight is a 2 ton unit. You need the REACH of the larger 2 ton. The engine is about 11 inches to far forward because the crane won't push any further under the car. So close but so far. :(

Yep---saw that issue recently pulling an engine/transaxle out of a Pantera
Been there, done that, the trick is to drop them out from under the chassis, not attempt to disassemble and lift out from above. ;)Quote:

I'm glad I got the two ton as well. By time you get the boom is extended fully to get the engine far enough back into your car, your usually on the lightest setting, or 1/2 ton in my case. If you factor in the engine and tranny on a big block, 900-1000lbs is about right. On my truck the legs of the lift are just tall enough to hit the front straight axle. What worked well for me for clearance issues was to have the front wheels on top of two pieces of 2x6 scrap lumber. Lifts the front just enough to clear the lift legs, yet doesn't get in the way of anything else.
Your engine and tranny look fantastic. Should be one trick ride once your rolling!:cool:
Build a bridge crane in your shop and you don't need anything else
As far as dropping them out the bottom I think any one that rebuilt their VW motor
has done that. I know I've done more times then I can count.
I think it was a SS camaro I saw them drop the whole front end out the
bottom with the engine. Kurt
As for dropping it out the bottom, only on the Pantera. As for attempting that with the 4.6L and the new FFR "HotRod 33", not likely, as with all other FFR kits (GTM not included), it has to go in from the top........

I once dropped a straight six out of the bottom of a 66 C 10.
First, I pulled head, intake, then pan, crank.. then with the block empty I dropped it out. Man, what a job!
It's in now. The bottle of the small crane was against the car with it still a foot too far out. It was in there easy with the longer boom. It's not possible to go in through the bottom on this car. Yes it's a PITA when all 6 wheels caster. The 2 on the bottle end have been changed to run straight.

8 throttle bodies awaiting injector install and for me to decide on an ECU to buy. I plan to use the coil on plug ignition and that's limiting my choices some. I still need to paint the base to match the cam covers and polish the fuel rails and stacks. :cool:Quote:

This is the FFR 33 Hot Rod with a bunch of upgrades. The front suspension is pretty much out of the box. The rear is the 3 link upgrade (standard is Mustang like 4 link) with a few tricks. The chassis evolved from the FF Challenge (race roadster) car and is light and very stiff. For lack of a better term it's a kit car. :rolleyes:Quote:
