50 Coupe getting roughed in.

Getting the body roughed in the way I want it. Rear is tubbed, rear fenders mounted back on +1", front bumper roughly mounted (rear bumper off a 59 Apache), roll pan made from a 53 Coupe trunk, lower quarters made from a wheelbarrow tub, taillights figured out this weekend (63 Corvette). Trying to put this one together with nothing I've seen done before.

Lookin good, French the headlights ???

Headlights will be frenched, hood will be seam welded, roof will be chopped 3", and it will be manual transmission with buckets. I have no idea where I'm going other than that.

Thanks for the compliments. Once I get the sheetmetal work done in the back and in primer, it's on to the firewall and mounting the engine and drivetrain. I want the car to have the engine in it before I do the chop. I'm getting a little tired of sheetmetal work right now.

I like it, I would like to see a side view when you get it primed and lowered might not need to chop the top. I have seen shoebox 50 fords with the right stance looking really good without a chop. Just my thoughts but I really like what you have done so far, the taillights look like they belong there. I had a tee shirt with a 41 Chevy coupe on the front until my wife made me give it up. The coupe was lowered without a chop I thought it looked great.

It has a nice contour. The Vette lights look like they belong there too. Very nice.

Yea, I can lower the rear up to 5" or 6", I need to get the engine in before I see what the front will need. You are right though, the color needs to be uniform before I can tell. I've seen some finished 50 coupes that just look like the top is to bulbulous, now's the time to correct that. On the other hand, my 53 never looked to me like it needed a chop.

I love lines of the '50.. They look good "as is", but chopped, well - it just does something special (if done correctly) and makes me want to listen to the Big Bopper and Elvis!

WOW, that is a really smooth looking ride that you are building.

looks good ...i would never chop mine did think about it 30 years ago i like it the way she is .i seen one chop they did not pull it off very well it was bad .but if you must go of it, here is mine:D i took this hood off and i welded up a nother hood when i took the small engine out and put the big one in with the alum lung on it .i cant wait for warm weather she flys:D

I'm still recovering from selling my 53 shown in my previous post, that's why I'm doing a similar car. This one will be built from the inside out though.

Your 53 looks good, your 50 Chevy being that your going all out more as a hot rod/custom may look better with a chopped top. I have a project 50 Ford chopped top custom, and a 50 Ford 50's style which I think both look good in their class. I also have a 54 Chevy 2 dr. 150 when I bought it in the early 80's it had skirts narrow white walls, it was a nice looking car. Over the years now it needs to be redone. I had visions of cutting the top off adding a Carson top, and doing it like Pat did his in black. The monochromatic look.
