today I saw the sweetest Dodge Valiant! body straight, paint intact, all glass intact.. no dents... I was brushing off the pine needles... and saw the front windshield had a big hole in it. The whole dam bottom of the car is rotted out.

Now for the rest of the story:
A tree branch broke through the window, and the owner sold the car rather than replace the glass. It was driven into the yard, where it sat and rotted.

Dodge Valiant??? If it was a Valiant then it was a Plymouth. If it was a Dodge than depending upon the year, it was a Lancer or a Dart, but not a Valiant. In any case, I hope it wasn't a first generation Lancer or Valiant because both of those were butt ugly.:eek: Second generation (1963 - 1965) of both the Valiant and the Dart were decent looking cars.
The early (1955 - 59) Dodge Lancers were okay, but the 1961 - 62's were sister cars to the Valiants and were also butt ugly.:LOL: The Lancer was re-introduced in 1985 as a second generation, LeBaron GTS clone.
A friend from high school had a 1964 Dodge Dart convertible. It was a nice car and a chick magnet for him.:D

Ok plymouth, thanks for the correction. Don't know the year, but this car is beautiful, if for nothing more than a couple of quirky engineering touches. It has a recess for the spare tire stamped into the trunk lid, way neat! Also, the rear view mirrors are mounted on the top of the front fenders instead of the doors, again neat! Looked like it had a slant 6 under the hood. Whole car is complete, but that dam hole in the window rotted out the whole bottom of the car. so sad.
60-62 Valiant... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..They had wild lines and the wagon was my favorite one..They were real cheesy rust traps though...Quote:

I finally killed the car when I got it stuck in a big snow drift one dark night. I kept punching low then reverse to rock it out of the drift, until the transmission finally said "no mas!" :(

This is my dad and his first actual new car, a Valiant. Of course he lowered it within minutes of getting it home. Two weeks later, he rolled it in the mountians in Ky.

The one you found was a first generation car, 1960 - 62. I believe they all had the slant 6 engine, which was one of the best engines Chrysler ever made. Used extensively by NY cabbies for years. The cars were all rust magnets. It's really too bad the one you found was rotted out, because there are very few still on the road and it would have made a real interesting running car if restored.
there is 1 of them parked next to an old hotel 1 town over from mine... Hotel turned into an appartment building long ago, but the car is in good condition and they move it around every once in a while, so it probably runs
My second ever car was a 62 valiant 2 door,slant six, factory floor shift 3 speed. Man I thrashed that thing in my senior year of high school...:LOL::D
That was about the same era that Geoff Bodine was campaingning his Valiant bodied modified...
