Pics if ya got em.

Im picking up a model a sedan body this weekend and im trying to decide on a direction for it. I like the older traditional look, as well as the rat look, but they are kinda overplayed at this point. Im thinking gasser, it`s getting trendy, but not to many a`s running around. Or im thinking late 60`s- 70`s hot rod, not to many of that stlye around either. My problem is i am having trouble finding pics to get ideas from.

I did a brief google search, and the search function on the hamb, but not to much help.
Im thinking 70`s cause i already have a set of crager rims, and lets face it, i really dont have the money to do it the way i really want.:CRY:

I would really like to chop, tub and put a huge motor with blower in it, but that`s not gonna happen.

John, did you get the one from Jake? Here are a couple I like. I will get you another that I like too, as soon as I can see Dan. He's saving that picture because it's what he wants to do with the one he has stored away.

Is it just the body or does it come with fenders, running boards, etc? To be a gasser, according to the old rules from the 60's, it would need fenders, hood top, grille shell, etc. If it doesn't have fenders, you can do it as an old altered class car. Somewhere I have a pic of one I shot way back in 1961. If you're interested in doing that style, I'll try to find the pic & post it here...:3dSMILE:

Why yes Don, i am getting the one from Jay. Ive been trying to haggle him out of it since before he got it here, but since taxes are coming tomorow im finally getting it from him.

I really like the first two pics! The yellow one is just what i was looking for! the only thing i dont really like is the back being way lower than the front.

I guess Jim is correct in i like the altered class style. Did they all run mag rims? Or can i get away with running stock steelies and keep the correct look?

You can run the steelies HRD :) This one's a class legal gasser. Not a sedan but close enough to get the picture.

To each his own, but I think this lakes/track style is a good option. While this is a '32 there's no reason the same theme wouldn't work with an A sedan.

Hot Rod, Here's another gasser Mdl A while its not a sedan its good for an idea or two. I like your plan to by the way.

Good timing for that question man. I fired it up today for the first time and I'm very excited. It sounds healthy! I haven't even tried to dial it in yet but it seems like it will not take much. Everything seems pretty close right out of the gate. I still have a few things to finish but it looks like I'll make BP with it unless something breaks :eek:

It`s not to pretty, but the price was right. Plus it gives me a chance to do more metal work. With enough practice i might figure it out one day!

We used to have a yellow lab greyhound mix named Sierra. She died a couple of winters ago, but was a great dog. Your lab reminds me of her! Still brings a tear to my eye remembering her. Dogs are like children!

Bob, that`s my favorite style too, and that is a very well done example!! Im trying desperatly not to build in that style, but i keep getting drawn back.

I went to my buddies house tonight and he has a complete econoline axle setup i can get, but im curious if i can make this setup work for this car? I did not measure the width, and im wondering how i would mount the springs with such short framehorns?

Am i way off base on this?

HRD, somebody makes spring perch brackets that will convert that econoline axle for use with a transverse leaf spring.

The Econoline axle is approximately the same width as an 8 inch rear from a Maverick. I am using one in my roadster with coil springs and my son has one under his sedan with a spring-behind transverse leaf. Just trash the original springs, trim off the edges where the springs used to bolt on, and make your own batwings, etc. The axle is forged steel, so welding on it is not a problem. The Econoline brakes are fairly small in diameter so they'll fit in just about any wheel, but the drums are deep and the shoes are wide, so there's lots of stopping power. The good news is all the parts are still available.:)

Here's a couple of pics. The first is an early build pic of my son's sedan. You can see the spring behind the axle, the shackles underneath, the home made batwings, and the radius rods. Second pic is an assembly pic of the front of my roadster. I made the bracketry to use Honda Civic springs and Pinto shocks (home made coil-overs).:3dSMILE:

I guess ill just use this thread for updates. I have decided to just build a standard slightly chopped sedan, not really a highboy style but not slammed either. Im gonna channle it just enough to cover the frame and keep the wheel well in line with the top of the tire.

I decided to do it this way to keep enough room for a back seat for the kids. I will post up pics as soon as i finish the frame. Im not gonna do a total build thread, but i will throw up some pics from time to time.
