With out question.... thats just the kinda guy i am.
Sure, most of us would and have. The only danger though is that sometimes you get entrapped so knee deep into someone elses project that they start to expect you to build the car for them. I think most of us have also been in that position. Unfortunately, those situations sometimes end up with hard feelings when you finally have to cut the cord.
But the short answer is yes........I've laid under a lot of other peoples cars over the years in an effort to help them out.
Don
Yes but with a few qualifiers.
Someone broken down along side the road....anything I could do (I usually carry the standard type of stuff in the tool box I carry).
Advice, never a problem and always free.
I've been know to donate parts to peoples projects now and then, but I'm not going let someone build their whole darn car out of my "spare parts".
The kicker comes from having run a garage full time for several years and still taking on the occasional side job. Most times if it comes thru the shop doors it is a job and gets charged accordingly at a competitive local labor rate and parts markup.
YES... I have been a member of NSRA on and off over the years and living in MI just south of Kalamazoo where they have a LARGE Nat. meet my shop has been used before my name and phone# were posted in there book as some one to call. If you have ever been broken down on the side of the road in a strange place (Before cell phones) you'd be glad someone stoped to help.
I would help in a heartbeat, but chances are you would'nt want my help...LOL! Now if you need medical attention, I'd be your guy..lmao!
I have helped and been helped. It's what makes this hobby great!
Without a question, I have stopped to help a broken down car, even if it just to keep traffic aware of the broken down car.

I absolutely would - but I can attest to the fact that not all others will from personal experience on PA's I-81 about 10-12 years ago. My 'bucket was just too small to drive the 360/720 miles so I had it on my sprint trailer (I know what you are saying !!!) and the coupler broke and the trailer came loose. I was able to bring it under control with the safety chains and my F350's back bumper in about a mile with no damage but a couple of bumper scratches and to stop in the median. A line of rodders blew by, then several other singles - and never a wave, a look or even any other acknowledgment. I finally got it back on the ball and found enough pieces to get me to York and then make a final repair. This made me resolve that if I ever saw a problem with no one else helping, I would stop and have several times. And yes, I did find that first group and congratulate them on being so 'thoughtful' and 'caring' and living the rodder's spirit of camaraderie.
A friend is building a '32 - and while he has not asked for much physical help, it has been built to my desires and with many of my ideas - his comment is that if he dies tomorrow, I will know how it has been built and can buy it and not make changes. There's something about that Chebbie engine though.......:HMMM::D
I have when I'm able and have also been on the receiving end of that help.
no i will not help anyone:3dSMILE:
Guy's Ihave done it many times over. Kurt
Yes. As a matter of fact I just met a local guy who is stocking the same make and model as my hot rod project. So He's been over a few times for old parts and stuff listed on craigslist. He in turn helps me as well with sources for parts etc. There are a few parts I have two of, that I'm happy to give him or sell for what I originally paid for them. I have benefited so much from this site, that I try to return the favor when possible.
have done it even for someone I didn't care for, this guy who is a real jerk
was broke down one day,I stopped to help, ended up towing him home,(4 mi.)
as we talked I mention a problem I was having with one of our cars,he said he knew wnat the problem was and said he would come down and fit for me!
year later,he has not showed yet! but the sad thing is.. I would help him again. (thats just who I am)now that being said, if he f^^^^^^ with my kids
or grandkids, it would a mistake he would only make once..:D
