styling ideas anybody???

Ok, so the Bronco II has the stock height windshield laid back five more degrees, the B and C pillars are chopped 3 1/4" and leaned in.... Giving some thought to how I could restyle the back end...no tailgate btw, I do want a lexan rear window for access to filling the fuel cell... The roof at ride height is now 52"--would a pro-stock style deck wing off the roof line work, or is it too high and would cause some aero problems at speed??????

PS--I deleted the spare tire carrier, too!!!!!:LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

Dave,

That box is going to try to fly at speed anyhow . . . . so what would a wing hurt? It'll get your nose up quicker, and you'll probably need a shorter runway to get airborne. :LOL:

Seriously though, are you going to go fast enough to need downforce to keep the tires planed at the high end?

Not sure how crazy I will get in the horsepressure department, but yeah, it'll be well in excess of 100 mph in the quarter....my experience with a deck wing on my Mavericks' was that the wing off the deck lid actually begin generating downforce at about 90 mph...Measured very unscientifcally with pictures and video from the "big end" of the strip---My Super Gas Mav tripped the big end timer at 136-142 mph.... Don't know that the Bronco will be a Super Gas car, but then again.....I might not be able to resist the temptation of a big horse in it....

Still going back and forth between a stroker Windsor or a supercharged mod motor---either of which will generate 400+rwhp....

You aren't gonna "need" a spoiler until about 100 mph, but stylewise it might work anyway. I'd fill those big windows in, sedan deliveries are cool.

yup, definitely gonna be a sedan delivery.....

at 2500 pounds, 31" tire, and 425 hp it would quarter mile in the 10.20's to 30's at about 125 to 135 mph depending on the gearing..... Again, not saying I'll build it that fast, but it's easier and cheaper to build stuff in then add it on...........

It'll have some sort of pan on the front to act like an air dam....... and frontal height will be around 5"...... front suspension will be coilovers, so probably set the dragstrip height around 3 1/2" on the front.....

Dave,
Your roof height is the same as my '32 truck :eek: That's incredible, my 2 cents is make it look as stock as possible, two tone paint, all the trim, and a rear view mirror. That is just the style I like.

Could have gone a bit lower, but I have to leave room in their for a cage and not make it totally impossible to get in and out of it.... At drag racing settings on the suspension it'll probably be down an inch or so at ride height..... I like 'em low, the Ranchero will be about 6" lower for the roof height.

The thought crossed my mind, but I want it to be streetable, too. Long ways to go till I have to decide on the engine, but probably either a modular or a Windsor with EFI.

Even if you don't completely fill the windows in, I'd lower the tops of the windows down to the same height as the door windows (filler panel for the radius in current glass).

The Winged Express's wing was pretty much right over the cockpit and of course it was a roadster. I think a wing on the Bronco in a similar location would be way kewl. :D

A spoiler is defined as a device which has air passing only over the top of it and in your case, could probably be secured to the bodywork. An airfoil or wing is defined as a device which has air passing over the top and the bottom of the device and must be secured to the frame or rollcage structure.
NHRA 2008 Rulebook; E.T. Handicap Racing, page 105:
"Bodied vehicles: Non-OEM airfoils permitted, must be permanently attached to frame or roll cage, non-adjustable during run."

Just so you know, a Top Fuel wing is 1500 square inches. Side spill plates must fit into a hollow 22" x 22" square box. :3dSMILE:

That was a thought, though briefly I must say... Much prefer the driveablity and improved control of a strut front with rack and pinion steering. It's only a 95" wheelbase, no reason to compound the problems inherent with a short wheelbase.....

I was wondering if this looks legal to you.
It's my buddies car, and his bed cover lifts up.
Maybe this spoiler is not big enough or is under 22ins.
I know it can't be hooked to the frame.
I only ask because I was thinking of using the same type

Oh yeah Kurt, I don't think any tech inspector is gonna have a problem with that one. It sure is beautiful on that truck. Just what it needed in the rear.

Hey Dave, what about filling in those side windows like suggested and leaning those rear pillers forward kinda like the soft tops on the original Broncos.

Tried that already, soon as they lean forward it starts throwing everything out of proportion. They have the same angle as the front post now, more of a sedan delivery look to it...filling the side windows is a definite yes to complete the effect.
