Hi guys, Ok I’m panicking now.
I installed my 9” today and was tiring to mesher the drive shaft and I notes that my 3rd member yok is not sinter to a drive shaft tunnel.
Its about 3/4 “ of to a left ( passenger site)
Is it suppose to be this way or the company that sold me the housing failed ?

You can chill. They are all off center. U joints take up the misalignment and it is actually good for them because it causes it to "work" the bearings. Hope you didn't chew off too many fingernails over this. :LOL: :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

Are the wheels centered in the wheel wells, that would be my biggest concern? That should be nothing to worry about it is not dead center on the rear anyway. You do not want a dead straight line to the tranny anyway, being off center will help your U-Joints live longer.

Jeeze now I'm worried! Mine is centered! but pitched up a bit versus a 0 degree straight ahead!
Edit that above statement, mine is off center, but still pitched up a bit

your engine could be setting over that way maybe for the streering box ?? on gm cars i allways put them on center or close
Chudik, do yourself an HUGE favor and buy this book. It's the best I've ever seen for explaining how and why to set up the rear diff/suspension for drag racing. (you don't know what you don't know) Jegs has the best price on it right now....Quote:

Also, as everyone else has said, it's better to have a little angle on the u-joints to make them work properly. I have seen fellows shorten the housing/axle on the driver's side to bring the pinion to the center of the car, but I think it is a mistake.

If you are looking to center the pinion without offsetting the housing you'll need an after market housing like the sheet metal units or one like this aluminum deal.

My is a new unit from heidts, I got a full 4 link from them
It’s a new housing with measurements for 67-70 mustang, and all the brackets are pre welded on it now, in order to redo the housing, brackets and axels for 3/4 “ offset , will cost me a alot of money, and seems to be not a realy big deal so I think I will stay with it for now.

nice work ford did run on the van and truck lot more pin off set then that gm did. i put them on cent gm and some of the hot rod s i have done. Very nice work on the stang i did know this stuff about how much pin off set there was when i cut housing down i think it was 2 3/4 off set or so on trucks and vans been some time i played with them the last one i did was a 33 willys i did both my gm cars a long time ago and did them for gm A G body cars but that did not pan out for daily income
