Family Hot Rod History!
I think I've posted this here before, but I just did it on another site. I always get excited about it, so I'll bore you again. :-)
This was my grandma's cousin and her son (the car owner). It was taken at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois in '59.
I thought I heard that all of these old builds were flat black with a flathead engine??? This one sure ain't flat black, and is obviously a Hemi!
BTW, My Grandpa drove a '37 Willys. :-)

Wasn't this the pic that brought out the fact that several of us old guys were from Illinois????

Does this count?? The adults are my grandparents on a trip to West Virginia - the kids - no clue, but I believe the boy in the back is my uncle.

It may not have had horse blanket covers but I'll bet the cushions were horse hair

Hey Mike, you missed the caption under that fantastic pic!
"It was taken at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois in '59."
I hate it when I do the same thing, usually too focused on the bikini clad lady to catch the writing!

It's a great picture Jay. Do you know when and where it was taken? From the building in the background an Air Foce Base?
I'm guessing 54/55 or so (a little latter than the other cars in the background. The Hemi would have been a fairley new engine.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

Brian, I have a few shots I took with a brownie camera, and some with a Polaroid camera, about the same time as this.....and they look about as faded as this one! Photography has sure come a long way!
I spent a lot of years thinking my 35MM shots were as good as it gets.....until I got my "idiot-proof" digital! I wonder what is next?
