12v boom box help

Ok, rather than put the AM/FM/ cassette radio that came with my rambler in the stock location on the car, I decided to put it into a wooden box w/ 2 speakers, so me and my mom went to get some scrap 1/2" plywood we had to build the box, and a couple sections of laminate wood flooring we had left over from our kitchen remodel, to use as the face panal... anyway, it's built now and compleatly wired, for power I used a 12v assessory plug I got from walmart, it's 5A fused. I wired the radio correctly to the diagram on the radio top and directions said to do.. it needs no memory, so theres no constant power wire.. it has a ground wire and a place that a mount strap goes, and pointing to the bolt/ nut that sticks out from the back that it mounts to, the rear connections diagram says it goes to chassis ground, so I connected a second ground wire to it... now, I plugged it in and turned it on, and it instantly popped the radio fuse
I also have a cigarette lighter plug wired into it ( for other assessorys I may use ) and it worked fine, so I replaced the fuse and tried it again, and the assessory plug fuse blew so before I replace it and try again, what am I doing wrong?

I guess that would help lol. unfortunatly I don't have a simple image editor for linux ( Only Gimp ) and I'm doing a pretty heavy update download now thru my dialup connection so It'll be a while b4 I can switch to windows and use paint. If I could find paint's location, I can access it from linux and run it with Wine. I'll have a diagram up as soon as I can

the speakers have there own ground wires. grey with white stripe ( right speaker ) and white with black stripe ( left speaker )... the speakers are just el cheepo Durabrand walmart special speakers ( 4.5" 30W max ). I'v got them mounted in an old set of plastic K mart brand, speaker grilles. I removed the ripped and torn 5W speakers from them and installed the new speakers..

I exclusivly use Ubuntu linux now, which works great, the only problem is it dosn't have a simple image editor like mspaint. it has Gimp, which is great because it's far better but it's not because I don't know how to use yet lol... I'll get a diagram drawn up as soon as I can. I'll also need some help figuring out how to intergrate a 6-12v converter box so I can run it 6v or 12v, so I can have tunes in my '51 Chevy.
