Looking at buying a 53 Chrysler New Yorker. Unfortunately, the owner needed the 331 from it for another project. Anyone know anything about the rear end that might be in it ? How about what modern (carbed) drive train might be the easiest to put in ? Any info appreciated.

Hemi's are BIG! Anything will fit the hole. I'd say a 360 or a 440 would be nice. The rear end has tapered axles and keyed hubs, not worth saving. An 8 3/4" from a Swinger might be the right width for your Chrysler.
how about a 440 W/ a 6 pack. Mopar makes the air cleaners and new 6 pack manifolds and linkage. Carbs shouldn't be too hard to find. it would get some attention.
put a hemi back in it preferly a 392 or 354
