Yeah, retirement pay sucks!! I been getting 1297 a month, and out of that I pay 925 for mortgage. Don't leave much for toys. One of our Daughters just bought us tickets to Orlando, we leave Sunday the 13th. Whahoooooo. She has a rental down there for a week. Hopefully going to meet J. Robinson one day while down there. Thinking about selling our place here and buying a manufactured unit down that-a-way for winters, become a snow bird. Live in our Motor Home up here during the summer. Trouble is, no garage to play in. Drats. Perley

Come on down!!!!! This is the time to buy a home here, if ever. They can't hardly give them away right now and the prices are at rock bottom. In fact, foreclosures are at an all time high and even those aren't selling well.

It's definitely a buyer's market here right now. I just saw a sign at the entrance to Lowe's last night: House for sale; appraised $168,000; must sell $86,000.:HMMM: We are seeing more & more of those around here; the housing market is really on its a$$.

Things might be different in FL, but don't wait too long. The second highest foreclosure rate in the US behind FL has been here in Vegas. I've been trying for two weeks to work a deal and have been either beaten to the offer or outbid on four deals so far. The buyers (both investors and potential primary residents) are getting active again. March was the third monthly increase in sales. The banks that own them are even starting to get a little cocky.........I guess humility comes hard to them.:) This is real time info, not the election year scare tactics from our friends in the media who probably won't publish anything remotely resembling positive stories until after November. Houses here are about 30-35% off the highs of two years ago, but with this level of activity things could start moving upward. The rub will come again later depending on how many more loans reset this year. I'm betting on a second wave this summer that will tilt back toward the buyers.

There is a condo property near us that is relatively new, couple of years old. When they were done building it the sign out front said $ 199 K for a three bedroom. Then it went down to $ 159. Then to $ 129. Now the sign reads "condos for sale or rent." My Son Don has a lot that was worth about $ 80K two years ago, now he can't get $ 40 for it.

If there was ever a time to buy something, this is it.

Well, I guess that's the only thing about living up here in the poverty belt.... When the recession started and the housing market went in the toilet, nobody around here even noticed!!!! Always been that way around here!!!:LOL: :LOL: :LOL: Only part of a houses' value that has gone up much in the last 10 years is the appraised level for taxes!!!!!!

Yes!! Well, about the same up here. Housing in a slump, foreclosures hitting a high! That's the rub, would have to sell my place here to buy one there! haahaaa. Catch 22. Yeah, places down there cheap. Places up here pretty cheap too. Difference is, down there a lot is 50 x 150 or less. Up here a lot is minimum an acre, and most of the time several acres. We have 5, sometimes wish for more, but got elbow room, and storage room for our projects! I can't wait to get to Plant City for a REAL strawberry shortcake! UMMMMMM. One a year isn't near enough. Perley, while you are there, go to the Branch Ranch Restaurant in Plant City. It is just a few minutes off of I-4. Family style meals, reasonable, and MORE than you can eat. They bring you something like 5 side dishes in the pans, and you serve yourself. They have been around since 1956, same owners. Also buy some jarred preserves while you are there, they are the BEST!! :) :)

Whoa, update!!!!! I just read their website.......they have closed the restaurant after over 50 years!! I can't believe it. Sorry I got your appetite all worked up for nothing.

Well thanks anyway for that helpful tip, did they serve BIG strawberry shortcake there too? We have gone to Parkesdale's three times now in the last two years. WOW. Anyways, I couldn't have eaten a meal and then one of the shortcakes. Sure wish it weren't so far down to your place, I'd love to meet you guys and see your projects. Maybe another time. We have friends who have a place down in Fort Meade, went there last year to visit. Guess we weren't all that far from you then, but didn't know it. I am totally bummed that Branch Ranch closed. I have stopped there for years, but now that I think of it, we haven't been up that way for a while so we didn't know it closed in 2006. Like I said, we used to plan our traveling around dinner time to be near there. :(

The Strawberry Festival is fun too, and I'm like you, I LOVE strawberry shortcake with tons of whipped cream on top. :D

This looks like a fun build. I have to say cutting stuff up does feel pretty good! I had to cut the shorty mufflers off the stock exhaust manifolds today! They were in a horrible place making it impossible to get to the tranny and exhausting thru the floor boards in the cab!

Maybe those exhaust pipes were there to give you some heat in the winter Steve. :D It's fun working upside down in cramped places, isn't it? :)

I MIGHT be taking my '27 in a slightly different direction powerwise. I just bought some parts off of a '46 Ford from a member on another forum. He is updating his car with a Chevy engine and some trick suspension stuff, and didn't need all the running gear, including the flathead engine. I have to drive up to Atlanta to pick the stuff up, but it's only about 10 hours each way.

He says the engine ran, so I might consider rebuilding it and putting it in the '27. Either that, or using all of the parts I got from him to build another car entirely. We have some 2 x 3 box tubing left over and I am getting the banjo rear, torque tube, engine and transmission, 4 inch dropped axle, and Posies spring, so I would have a good start on a basic hot rod. It might even be the NEW Project $ 3K ! :LOL: :LOL: All I would have to do is find a cheap body somewhere. I have always had a hankering for a T coupe, chopped of course, so that might be something to consider.

Let's see, I still have a '56 Ford truck steering box sitting around, some funky headlights, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............. :D This is like Deja Vu all over again. :)
