well, when I go on a 'trip'..
I grab my emergency box. It has an extra alternator, fan belts, oil, water, tool kit ( cheapie 100 piece ), rags, distributor module, tire plug kit, 12V air pump, fuel pump.
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
