Tires.... need HELP
Ok hot rodders im new at this so I might need some direction. I have a 1953 chevy 5 window prostreet and I want to put something other than 15" wheels on it. As of right now the rear tires are 31x18.5r-15 mickey sportsmans. Anyone have any ideas?

34_40 I think you're right. I've been looking into 18" and 20" wheels for my vette, but all the ones i've been finding look to ricerish for my liking.Ryan

I love the big rims when they're done right. Here's a variety of stuff I've seen lately at car shows. Maybe something will move you. Would also be great to see some pics of your truck......

martino, could you post up a pic of your '53? that way the members could see it's stance and maybe get some better ideas - - - I agree with Charlie on not being able to get a grip on the large hoops - - - - different strokes for different folks I guess.

I'll have to agree! All rim and no sidewall looks "cartoonish" to my sensitive sensibilities... LOL..

The big hoops and rubber band tires, IMHO, not withstanding the fact they remind me of a Conestoga wagon, take away from the overall appearance of the vehicle since they stand out so significantly.Ken Thomas

Conversely, all sidewall and no rim looks equally "cartoonish" to me! I like a healthy balance. It's interesting that prior to the 50's, most all cars & pickups had 16", 17" or taller rims on them. Just a couple of inches make a big difference. Like, personally, I think this '37 looks far better with 17"(might be 16"s) on it

Personally, nowadays, I would start with 17'"s on everything and go up from there. 20" or 22" is about my limit depending on the vehicle.
This '37 has 17" on front & 18"s rear, which is about perfect for my "sensitive sensibilities" on this kind of car though if mine, I would consider dropping the front end another inch or so....

Well I've not changed my mind about the wheels Back in the 50s they didn't have the LOW profile tires of today... I have seen cars that I didn't think the paint fit right. but thats just me.Charlie
