    what's up with desotos?

    saw this

    http://fresno.craigslist.org/car/471286346.html

it is actually up in mount shasta, but I like the way the front and rear look. like the fins. got a friend thinking about getting himself a hotrod or project car and was wondering what the story was on desotos? they come out nice? worth it or too hard to find parts? were they really made by dodge or a seperate car company? thanks guys.

Desotos were a seperate entity from Dodge, like the Plymouth was. They were built up to '61 models, but were cancelled mid year.

I also had a 57 with a dual quad Hemi, what a sound when you hit passing
gear. Mine was yellow and white with white walls. What a sleeper

Desotos were a separate company like Plymouth however their styling was very close to the Dodge a lot like Mercury is to Ford.

In the late 50, early 60's, the designers at Chrysler must have designed cars while acid tripping. Some of the ugliest cars ever produced. The front end of that DeSoto is a good example

Check out http://nada.com for some pricing but also http://www.vmrintl.com/ which has a better breakdown as to condition. If this car is a #4 condition let's say, it's still priced good.

While a 4-door is somewhat less desirable than a 2 door cost is less and there ain't, and never was, a lot of 2-doors floating around. While some may call it ugly like most oddball designs it grows on you and is unique.

It will never be mistakened for a Chevy or Ford and with its 383 in decent shape will smoke it's counterpart.
There is no substitute for cubic inches
