I am currently living in Pennsylvania, and will be moving to Tennessee in 2 years, i was wondering what the laws were like down there if anyone is from there. Are you allowed to have a hot rod without fenders? Is there safety inspections? emissions? Slicks illegal? Noise violations??? I am looking to open a hot rod shop when i get down there and just wanted to know what i am looking into! Anyone who can chime in on the great state of Tennessee please do! Thanks a lot!
I know that when you register a car in any of the metropolitan areas, you’ll have to pass the basic inspection: emission, brake, lighting (turn signals, brakes, high/low beam), horn, and windshield wipers. As far as I know, there's no fender requirements or noise restrictions... but I'll bet you'll get a "disturbing the peace” violation if you make too much noise early Sunday morning or in the middle of the night! :LOL: Most of the local jurisdictions have control over noise issues.
Hey HooseMan! Didn't say which part of Tennessee, cause there is a difference if your in a big city or out in the burbs. I was born, raised, and lived in Memphis for 38 years and now live 8 miles from Mempho just below the line in Mississippi. Memphis has an inspection station you must visit once a year {and must pass} to be able to buy your tags. They are pretty tough especially on emissions. You can purchase an antique tag, but they are only valid weekends and shows. The smaller towns are not nearly the hassle. The NSRA is located in Memphis, give them a call they can give you more as far as other areas of the state, or call the local Chamber of Commerce where your headed. If your headed to Memphis let me know and I will PM you a lot more info about the living conditions and places to chec k out. There are a lot of smaller cities just a few miles below the Tennessee line here in Mississippi and lots of Rodders and laws are a lot more lax. I run Antique tags all year long where I live. I would take a look around Newport,not to far from Pigeon Forge rod events are huge there, also Murfeesboro has weekly events in the area.Quote:

I think slicks, not dot rated , would be illegal just about anywhere.
I'm in Hickman county, which is about 40 miles west of Nashville. We have no emission testing, just a wheel tax, which isn't too bad, and the cops aren't too bad either. **)
I just want somewhere where i am close to a big enough city where there is a big demand for rods and shows, but yet far enough away that i have a yard around my house, lol. Hopefully somewhere that doesnt get too much snow too
Hot Rod Hoose - you looking to get away from PA and all of their hot rod registration messes?? In a couple of years I will be leaving PA, but heading to Florida instead. Tennessee still gets too much snow and ice for my liking, plus I dig car cruises 52 weeks a year.:LOL: :LOL:

Hot Rod Hoose you are talking my kind of talk.I am from that part of the country(Morristown).I have a lot of friends there and all have at least 1 rod.PM me and I will give you my personal friends name and Tel.#.His son organized the local car club and he is very active in the club.Pigeon Forge 20 minutes away,Knoxville 30 minutes away.Lot's of nice rides up there.I hope to get back someday.Real Estate and Taxes there are reasonable.The Car Club has a web site thru Hemmings .
