I read about some race gas that came in a bottle that when mixed with lower octane pump gas would raise the octane of the pump gas. Has anyone heard of this??? And how feasible is it to try to raise the octane level in pump gas? Say from 91 octane to 94 octane? Thanks, Bill
hey bill, you can order octane booster from jegs or summit in a few brands. the stuff does work as for the amount it will rise the octane?? the bottle will tell you how much to add to a tank of gas.. i have some what tested it on the dyno to see how well it works and was surprised how well it did. ran 1 bottle of the nos brand to ten gallons of 91unleaded. the engine was a 13to1 bigblock and did very well and made within 10hp of cheaper race fuels... i'm not saying it will be safe to run in every 13to1 engine but i would feel very safe to 12to1 with the stuff. good luck
It can be done, but to determine the actual amount of octane you would need a fuel hydrometer to measure it. Many around here use 104 octane booster, seems to work ok. Directions on the bottle are fairly good as to how much to use....Quote:

Once I used an octane booster product called 104. I seem to remember that it was one can per 20 gallons of gas. I used one can to 14 gallons which is what I had at the time. Had to use it cause I ran out of gas and drifted into a gas station (only one in the town) and all it had was regular. My car needed premium, so I filled with regular and then emptied a can of 104 in it. Stopped the pinging and ran very well.
Problem was that the can of 104 was like $5, worked out to be about 35 cents a gallon for the additive. Premium was only about 20 cents more than regular, but when you got to have it, you got to have it !
Actually I have noticed several of the service stations near me have dropped their premium octane levels. Where they used to sell 93 and 94 octane their are now selling 91 or 92. Not a big difference in octane but they are still charging the price of the higher octane gas. No surprise there.:LOL:
