Back from 600 mile cruise---

I just got back from a marathon 600 mile run with the "Wild Canary". I have a friend who lives up near Perth, Ontario, about 1 hour from our nations capital, in Ottawa. I finished up a small design job on Wednesday, and since I didn't anticipate any more work coming in this week, decided to go travelling. I checked out the Environment Canada website, and it called for nothing but SUN, SUN, SUN for the next 4 days. Packed my bag, checked the oil and tire pressures Wednesday night, and got up at 7:00 AM to dark, heavily overcast skies and colder than a witches tit---decided to go anyways. Apart from near death from exposure, (no sidecurtains or heater), the trip went extremely well. Thank God for Tim Hortons (our Canadian donut and coffee chain) in every small town on the way---hot coffee in one, then hot coffee and pee in the next one, and so on, all the way from Barrie to Perth. I kept seeing ugly black/purple clouds and lightning stikes all around, but fortunately I missed all the rain, just hit a couple of places with really heavy airborne mist. Had a great visit with my friend and his wife, even attended a cruise night in Smiths Falls while I was there.---we did have sun on Friday and today. Started home this morning at 9:00, and decided to come home by way of Bancroft and see my ancient mother. (87 last week). Mom was thrilled to go riding in the roadster pickup, so we went up and seen her semi-ancient sister (78 in November) and had lunch. Mom invited me to stay overnight, but I wanted my own bed, so after lunch I pressed on for home. My God, that hotrod runs and handles sweet!!! I came the last 100 miles thru a series of winding secondary roads, and for an old car with a straight axle, that thing holds the road better than you can even imagine!!! It was a great trip. The car worked good, I had a great visit with my friend and got to cruise the Ottawa Valley, and I didn't freeze to death. (although it was 58 degrees F when I left Perth this morning wearing a Tee shirt, two sweatshirts, my summer jacket, and my old leather motorcycle jacket over top of that).:LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

Sounds like a blast Brian!!!! Got to get myself back in the road trip mode!!!! My last cruise was 6 miles, all the way out to Dave T's shop in back---and now I'm even farther behind in the shop!!!! Should have worked a few more years, this retirement stuff is just way too hectic for me!!!!!

Betcha Mom had a lot of good thoughts cruizin' in the Canary!!! Congrats on taking the time to include here in your fun!!!! I'd say she has a couple months worth of braggin' rights when someone else mentions their son sent them a nice card!!!!!!:LOL: :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

Yep you and i both Dave . Getting to cruise in one even in just a short drive down the road will be thrilling .

Here the Canary takes it along winding run with the stops . Brian your mom does have the braggin rights now . I can hear her on the phone now telling her friends that you were there and give her a ride in the Yellow Truck . LOL so if you trip down here just south of Chicago i have a umbrella and a extra coat .

Me and my dad took the '66 Charger out for a short cruise friday night, even tho
the carb needs rebuilt ( most likely gonna get a new Holley ). have to rapidly pump the gas to get the motor to really perform ( just flooring it, will bog it out )
accelerator pump might be causing issue. other than that, the motor and trans show no issues.

Hey Brian Perths a petty town,wifes got cousins at port elmsley between there and Smith Falls, We get out there every couple of yeaqrs to visit. Nice country. Lot more lakes than out west,here in the dryland.

I second the road trip idea. Unfortunately, I have an anchor tied to my rear axle . . . the Virginia DMV. I'm just DYING to get out on the road.

Brian, you are going to wear that thing out if you keep driving it all over like that!!! :LOL: Glad to see you are enjoying the fruits of your hard labor, you deserve it.

That must have been a real blast Brian, and the handling even made it better I am sure. There just isn't anything better than a hotrod and a summer day on a back road. I have managed a couple 300 and 400 milers this year but the rest are going to be with-in a 100 miles, I love every one of them as long as I'm in the ol' cruiser.
