Hello
I'd like to know whats the pros and cons using radial or bias-ply tires.
i have read that some old cars when stock it's not recomended to use radial tires.
Whats the pros and cons? why should i use stock instead of radial? or the oposite..

You should get a real universe of answers to this question. A lot has to do with what you plan to do with the car. As for using radials, I have them on my 57 Olds and on my 34 Plymouth and have no problems with either of them. Some people like the bias ply tires for their tread patterns and look. Seems like a lot of roadster owners are going to the wide whites in bias ply, ride and handling is okay and they look good. These days, though, you can achieve the same look in a radial as well.

well the car wont be tunned. it's to keep as stock. it has a 1700cc engine with 55 HP, max speed is 140km/h
the wheel is 4" large if i'm not wrong and it was designer for 590-13.
I don't know if i will use the car daily but i'll use it very often. I plan to also do a few trips with it.
It's an opel rekord olympia p1 from 1959.

No, I wasn't busting your chops for asking........it is just that certain subjects on here (and every forum) evoke more emotion from both sides than any other. Bias ply vs radial is one of those subjects. My vote always goes to bias ply as I like the old timey looks and have had good personal experience running them for years and years. Others think that is dark ages thinking and that radials are the only way to go. Both sides have good points.

I recently heard bias ply are better for trailers.
Is that true???

Radial tires are far better far traction and control on dry or wet streets. They cost a bit more, but will also last a lot more miles.
I had this discussion with Magic Tilt Trailers one time (we bought their trailers at the marina where I worked). They recommended bias plys if you are going to be using the trailer on long trips on the interstate, and radials if you only use it for short trips, like from home to the launch ramp. The logic was that bias plys sway less from side to side at those high speeds.
They suggested we ask each customer how they intended to use the trailer and order the trailer with bias or radias accordingly. Ken Thurm builds trailers, maybe he will see this thread and comment.

My new trailer came with big heavy duty 8 ply radials!!! Best stability I've ever had with a trailer....!!!!! But other then spending the big $$$$ for tires like this on a trailer, I'd go with a bias....Unless you tow at the speeds we sometimes do, then you should have a high speed tire!!!!!!!!:LOL: :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:Quote:
