46 pick up

can anyone tell me the overall height length and width dimensions of an unchopped of sectioned 46 Ford pick up, Im building a new garage to take a 46' that im looking to buy in the autumn and would appreciate any help, Thanks.

OK, 189 in. long, 75 in. wide, 6 feet tall. Numbers are probably plus or minus 1 inch. 6 feet tall is with approx. 5 inch drop due to suspension mods and lower tires.
Hope you get the '46. There arent that many around here, but dont know about the UK.

Thankyou very much for going to the bother of finding those dimensions for me! I can now check my access alleyway and ensure the garage/workshop main doorway apertures are going to be big enough to accept such a truck, Thanks!!!!
You say theres not many around? does this mean its a generally rare truck in the states? or just in oregon?,
I just happen to be on the net and came across this gorgeous looking truck, a type i'd never seen before!, i fell in love with it straight away!, since then ive only ever seen two others, (three!! now ive seen your gallery!!) one other on the net for big bucks and funnily enough, the other was a primered, flathead, untouched version, with white walls being used as a 'ratted' daily driver, at our local 'Krispy Kreme' sunday morning meet!!
I like the idea of having a truck, that at least over here, is different to the norm!! We have heaps of F1s, F100s, 48s and Tri Chevy Pick ups, but to my knowledge, the primered one is the only one in the UK!!!
I must admit, i need to get my act together to raise the funds to purchase the 46' ive found on the net, as Im actually like a man possessed, eating, sleeping and dreaming 46's!!!!
And i think making contact with you is only going add to my angst, especially as im now thinking that theyre a 'rare' aquisition?
Id love to find out more about yours? from the photos it looks like you've done a ton of work?

I guess the 42-47 Ford 1/2 tons could be considered rare, though that does not particularly make them more valuable. In the states the Holy Grail of Ford trucks for rodders remains the 40-41 models. In Australia and New Zealand it is the reverse, where the 42-47 style is the hot ticket. There was a period of 10 years when I saw only 2 Jailbars (the reverred nickname for 42-47s coined by blokes down under) on the road, anywhere, between here and Kansas. Then last year during our local hot rod weekend, there was mine and two other 46's in our small town of 30,000!

46' Y block, thanks for that tutorial, i feel like a sponge at the moment! i want to absorb as much about the Ford 46' as possible and you seem to be the man to ask? your in depth knowledge is very interesting! the rarity thing, to me, is not to do with being more valuable!! its more about being different from the rest of the croud!!!, by the way, your deodorant is just fine!!!, i would like to thank you for being so helpful and accomodating, as this is my first ever venture into a forum site, and to be honest, im pleasantly surprised!!! The site administrator apparently listed all the 42-47s as '47. There are some great looking examlples!
I looked up the production numbers for 1946. US was 75,457 and Canada was 39,493. The Canuck models would have been Mercury, which had a different grill with horizontal oriented members and more chrome. 1942 which was cut early due to WWII was in the neighborhood of 17,000, and 1945 required some time to get up to speed so there were approximately 35,000 units. Dont know about '47.
Trucks came in I-6 and V-8 models, 114 in. wheelbase. One reason there are even fewer than usual survivors in the states is the interchange between the 40-41 and Jailbar cabs. Quite a few of the later went into 40-41s for rodding or resto.
ONe time another 46 owner and I were chatting on the net & I asked him how many of our trucks he estimated in the US. I said that I had checked the member's list and info provided of this site (2 plus years ago), with more than 10,000 registrations, and only found one for a 46. Adding to that some other observations I estimated the number to be 500.
The 42-47 model was Ford's first light duty truck that was built with a truck ladder frame as opposed to putting a bed on a car frame.
