Thread: A week in the life of old coots......

........was mis-spent traveling around So Cal in search of old car entertainment.

We started out in Temecula at an Early Ford V8 event. Good hot day, around 100. No pictures of the 1.2 pound burger one of the guys wolfed down at a local burger joint, but here's some of the cars in attendance.

Some more cars at Temecula;
The first one is a coach built German bodied car, next to it was another in dark red. Very unusual, and surprising to see two at one event.

The next sedan was plain looking, but that was it's appeal.........just very clean and understated.

Until I saw the 32 roadster, I thought you were at an AACA event.

Places to go, People to annoy.

The next day we dropped in on Hollywood Hot Rods. The shop looked crowded and somewhat chaotic, but this roadster was a very interesting piece. The customer is into vintage sports cars and wanted a similar vibe in his Deuce roadster. It's set up for right hand drive, will have many vintage sports car pieces in the interior and little touches of sporty car outside. Very many detail pieces. Just one of which is the exhaust exiting the frame rail with stainless screen filler. They used the same material as a grille, but will be changing that out as it restricts airflow too much. Part of the rear deck lid will be done in wood veneer decking much as an old Chris Craft or Garwood.

Then it was off to Edelbrock to see the "museum" which was partly empty as they were putting several cars in the LA Roadsters show during the weekend. Caught Vic Sr's roadster (the actual one not a remake, though restored now) in another building being prepped for the weekend. Also toured the machining/fabrication plant, very impressive. Hot Rodder does good.............now a $130mil per year business.

The next day we went to Lime Works. Very well organized shop doing some very nice work. Unfortunately much of what they were doing didn't photo well so no pics. Likewise was Early Ford Parts in San Dimas. This place is chock-a-block full of Model A and pre-49 Ford parts. They just keep diggin' up sources of old tin and mechanical components, as well as most of the typical repop stuff. One of the guys in our group (7 hot rod pals) scored some NOS '32 hood latches.

Then off to So Cal Speed shop for their open house. Man what a crowd!!!! It didn't officially start til 3:00 pm, but we got there around 1:00 and had to park about 3 blocks away! Lots of nice stuff there, these are just a sampling;
The first car came all the way from Sweden, the second is a work of art, the third.........just cool.

We made a few other stops around the area, but the big to-do was the L.A. Roadsters swapmeet and show. Prices asked were strong, but some of the stuff that shows up is very rare, and not often seen. I would have included a picture of Ken Thurm next to his neat little truck, but the son of a gun was never at his booth.................his grandson is a cute little guy though.

You're not alone, I had to ask too. It's a club rule that each car displayed have an extinguisher nearby, and "tradition" has evolved that a lot of the members put them under the front tire like a chock.

Thanks for the pics Bob! Till I saw the tractor, chebbie,and the belly tank I was beginning to think there wasn't anything in So.Cal excpet '28-34 Fords!!! Didn't ya hit any of the good MoPar shops????

Also really like the side exhaust through the rails on the wrong steer roadster! Very nice work!~

Man I love that faded green 32 5w !!! Ive seen 1 other pic of it awhile back. Would love to see more if you have any!

The closest was when I tried to sneak a set of aluminum hemi heads out of Edelbrock. For some silly reason they objected.....................kinda one way of 'em doncha think?

Sorry I missed you, it was a pretty crazy weekend. I was #766 to get into the roadster show with my roadster. So I was probably waiting in line when you came by When you come here again please let me know.

Really? What a bunch of jerks! Like they couldn't spare one lousy set of heads!!!!!
