I hope it's ok for my engine to be sitting these last few months. I primed the oil pump early on but since then, it's just sat. I can't wait to crank it up but alas, it's not time yet.....

Randy,
The song is something about high and low roads and who gets to Loch Lomond (a beautiful lake just N of Glasgow) first.

If you primed the engine way back, it might be an idea to pull the plugs, give each cylinder a squirt of your usual oil, then crank over by hand a couple of times - and yes, you will blow some oil smoke exhaust at first start, but at least it keeps some lubricant on the cylinder walls. You also need to reprime just before start. A flat tappet cam probably needs some zinc based additive or some Shell Diesel Rotella. The EPA has made the oil companies remove almost all zinc and a lot of folks have wondered why their HP cam lobes are now round !!
