That looks good, Dave!
I definitely like the alternator better on the low side. That's where mine has always been. Of course, I'll have an AC compressor mounted above that.
To get clearance on my cross member my oil pan came from an 80-86 F150 and the dip stick is on the driver side screwing into the pan. I still have to find a decent screw-in tube & dipstick that will clear my headers, tho. It doesn't appear to be the same size fitting as the screw-in 351W oil pan.
I like that radiator hose treatment, too. I see you have what appears to be a heater/ac bulkhead on the firewall but no hoses. No heater hooked up?
I'm sure I'll follow your lead on the distributor, too, but I'm not quite ready for that yet......

Actually Randy, that's supposed to be one of the "improvements" with the new software/pic posting. It's always been available with using a photo hosting site, but the new software can also do it from pics housed in your own hard drive. Sadly, I've not taken the time (perhaps frustration too) to figure out how to do it. Perhaps one of the other guys who has made the effort can show us the way. Hmmmm, does my expecting another member to spoon feed me on this make me an OCHR (Occupy Club Hot Rod) member?

Yeah, Bob, I guess I could use a little spoon feeding, too!
It seems like in the past when using Photobucket or whatever, you could definitely write captions between the pics but the pics would often show up a links on this site instead of actually pictures. I'll do some exploring and see if I can figure something out. If not, I'll just have to pitch a tent with you and wait for somebody to give us something....

That extra length rubber hose is due to the fact that the Speedway tubing ends up being about an inch+ shorter then what I needed. for the application. I would eventually like to have it Jet Hot coated and at that time will add some length. That cross piece is for the hood supports. Since I'm currently running without hood sides, I made up some different ones that use the bolt holes on that as well as the hood side rod loops.
Randy, my original brackets were for the alternator and the a/c compressor. When I decided to not use the a/c, I then just used the alt bracket, but somewhat modified. After having the car on the road for a while decided that it just didn't look right, unbalanced. Then to, it was a bear to do anything with the distributor. As far as a heater, it's a big Vintage Air, installed, works great, but I decided to 'prove' my mods plus make an attempt to do something better then having a couple crappy looking hoses draped alongside the engine.
I guess I would end up making my own dipstick tube, possibly even a flexible one or adapt one of Lokar's if I had your arrangement.

Nice improvements Dave. I prefer low mount alternators for just the reason you stated, and I HATE the look of the rippled rad hoses........rubber especially, but even the stainless. One of these days (cars?) I want to give those Gates shrink clamps a try. Do they make smaller ones to clean up that bypass hose as well?Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Thanks Uncle Bob - this was a fun project as that is the way I originally 'envisioned' the engine compartment. Other parts of the project were more important to make it a driver.
As far as the ribbed rubber hose - I dislike those with a passion. And the Cool-Flex - that seemed like a good idea until I installed it, then it, IMO, really didn't look so nice, though some cars don't look too bad with them.
Those Gates shrink clamps go down in size to 1/2" up to 3". The ones I originally bought were from Speedway and had to be sent back as I ordered the wrong size, but McMaster-Carr have a better selection McMaster-Carr.
I need to order some for the bypass, heater and lower radiator hoses (when I replace them though)Dave W

Looks good Dave! I would probably like to see a little less rubber on the bottom of the radiator hose, but I do like that look. I almost got one of those cool flex hoses, but went with a cheaper molded rubber one and I don't regret it.
what is the cross piece on the radiator support rods for? Is that just a support for the hood to rest on? Mine has been laying around for a while now and I'm not exactly sure what to do with it. Not that we have a hood yet either..'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

My last post was using the forum software and it put the photo at the beginning of my diatribe. I simply cut and pasted it where I wanted it to go. Yep!! A royal PITA, but I tried it and it worked. Now, I'll try it with two photos if you folks will indulge me

For a neater heater line install a variation on the upper coolant hose would be hard lines with flexible connectors at each end. Drop the lines down to the frame and then back to near firewall and back up (or if starting new bring them in at the kick board). A Model A frame doesn't leave much room, but getting a majority of the tubing down low helps the line of sight. Especially effective if the tubing could be routed under the headers, say along the oil pan rail, but again, depends on space.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

That's kind of what I'm planning - tho Ford makes it a bit difficult with the placement in the intake manifold of the one line. 1/2" conduit might be a way to go as it is fairly close the same OD as the nominal 5/8" heater hose ID. Then if I like it, transfer the pattern to SS tubing, if the funding is there.
It IS tight there though, so it might be an interesting project and under the hugger style headers - maybe not. That size conduit is cheap, so we'll see what works.Dave W

When I preview the post, I can drag the image to be placed in between dialogue but it only seems to post the image url and not the image itself.
